Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Ezri Konsa from Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

The defender links up with former boss Dean Smith following an impressive campaign for the Bees last term.

After coming through the youth ranks at Charlton Athletic, 21-year-old Konsa was part of the England squad at the recent European U21 Championships in Italy.

He was also a member of the England squad that won the U20 World Cup in 2017.

Head Coach Dean Smith said: “Ezri fits the profile of the type of player we were searching for.

“It helps that Richard O’Kelly and I have worked with him before. He’s a high-potential player who I believe can step up to the Premier League and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”

Konsa will join the squad for the first time when they fly out to the United States today.

Welcome Ezri.

Apologies for the questions you have to face in that interview.

Haven't watched yet, but let me guess:

- How does it feel to be joining a [brief pause for effect] massive club like Villa?

- What about [brief pause] the size of the club? Would you say that was a major factor in your decision to join?

- The stature of a club like Villa. How much are you [brief pause] relishing getting out there in front of the fans?

Appears a very calm, confident guy.

Good signing.

What a twat!!

bless him

Oh dear.
Can't stop laughing at that. Presumably he'll be back soon saying that he's rubbish and that's why they turned him down.

I particularly liked "The facilities are a joke", knowing he means it in the positive, belying any media training he's had to show how impressed he was!

Have we had a proper shirt-stretching yet ?

I'll accept that the Mings announcement had to be different, but what's wrong with a good shirt-stretch ?

Maybe there's a problem with the quality of the seams ?

More likely, the stretch is seen as too static for modern video announcements

The pictures with Mings provided a very solid stretch which you would expect. Firm grip, taut material but just short of the point of tearing.

Edit: Just seen what will be known as the “Konsa Stretch”. Very impressive
