This is the season when he's stepped up from being merely good to absolutely superb.

Is he now above Mellberg, Ugo and Laursen in the Villa CB rankings?

Behind God obviously.

Not above Laursen. He's the best I've seen since McGrath. Mellberg is a big personal favourite. Ehiogu, maybe.

He has been the bridesmaid for too long to be mentioned alongside them in my mind. Couple more seasons at this level, then we'll talk.

I put him above all three now, because he is consistent and rarely I…… don’t want to jinx it, unlike Laursen.
Solid 8 every week.

Definitely, I've been a big critic of his but he has improved out of all recognition. That's after a rotten start to the season too. Deserves a lot of credit. Has played with Mings, Lindelof and Torres and defensively we have been strong with all three. That's on him. Never going to be strongest in the air but making better decisions all the time. Didn't see the Palace game but Mateta humiliated him at Wembley last season, fair turnaround in fortunes to keep a clean sheet in the circumstances. The arm waving whinging at others seems to have stopped too
