So it turns out Richard Masters is from Solihull and an ardent Villa fan who struggles to keep his allegiance a secret! - according to the Sunday Times today

They have to change the offside rule. These microscopic toenail decisions are simply not "clear and obvious" Go back to the clear daylight between the defender and attacker rule. It's ludicrous that these decisions can take up to 5 minutes before a decision is made. Fans in the stadium are pissed off with the time taken and sit there without proper communication ad to what is going on.

‘Clear and obvious’ has never been a threshold for VAR offsides.  It amazes me how many people don’t realise this.

As for the idea of daylight between the players, that will fundamentally change how the game is played and teams set up.  People need to be careful what they wish for.

Offside should be a factual decision, not subjective.  If we have technology that can deliver this quickly I can’t understand why anyone would be against it.

If the changed it to 'daylight' they'd still be agonising for ages on if there's daylight between the lines drawn.

Yep. Stupid idea from people who haven’t though it through.

I do wonder until we completely change the people/organisation who are viewing VAR it’s always going to be questionable whatever rules, instructions and technology used.

In life, there is no such thing as perfect justice but the law is the nearest thing we have to achieving it.

In football, there is no such thing as perfect refereeing but VAR is the nearest thing we have to achieving it.

Persevere with VAR but tweak it when necessary. Like the law has been.

P.S. What film did I get the above opening line from?

The 'daylight' thing again! It was never actually in the laws of the game. It was just floated once as an idea, and then illiterate pundits got obsessed with it. It's never happened, will never happen, should never happen.

You can't make that suggestion without defining "clear daylight"
