Intriguing wording “front of shirt” partner......

PL teams have a sponsor on the sleeve as well I think, so that's still to come.  My money's on Xpelair.
That's going on the back of the shorts ;-)

A betting company with 8s in the name sponsoring a football team. So original.

Haven't checked but guessing they are Chinese/Thai? They seem to have a weird obsession with that number.

Described as record breaking, so that'll do for me.

They do and I only know that because I got married on 8/8/8 and flippin’ Chinese couples had inflated the price of everything.

Given the news of Acorns Walsall reported elsewhere on this site, I was hoping we'd put them on the shirt again to raise the profile of the hospices, but sadly not. I'd shell out for the home and away shirts if that were the case, but the gambling industry has more clout than me so their money is of more value than mine to the club.

Yeah. Without being too tedious, and yes I know we’re a commercial operation, I do find the ubiquity of betting sponsors in football a bit crass and depressing. Especially given some of the high profile addiction issues in the game.

The simple answer would be to ban sponsorship from gambling. How do our Muslim players justify wearing it? Gambling is definitely haram.

Loads of my Muslim mates gamble and they all reckon they’re going to heaven. That’s until I remind them of all the other shit they’ve done. And our soon to newest signing gave up a day of fasting to score a header in the play off final.

Sponsorship is about money. And the best sponsors with the deepest pockets tend to go the more high profile sides. If we do well we’ll get better deals. Might even be a bigger deal from betting company. Simple really.

It's up to the individual Muslim, I think. I seem to recall Kanoute didn't like it when he was at Sevilla and wanted to put black masking tape over the sponsor. They eventually won him round by agreeing to donate part of the proceeds to a charity of his choice.

Those outfits are a travesty. Are they designed by Kappa?

Alcohol rather than gambling, but the South African cricketer Hashim Amla doesn't have the sponsor's logo on his gear because it's Castle Lager.

I seem to remember a Newcastle player refusing to wear a Wonga shirt because money lending is also haram. I can’t see why betting, alcohol and tobacco can’t all be banned as sponsors. My boy didn’t understand why his Villa shirt didn’t have the sponsor on when his mates’ teams do. I tried to explain that gambling isn’t great without making it look like Villa were supporting something bad. Then I told him, ‘if we get promoted, we can get a better sponsor ‘. Better as in more cash, undoubtedly. Morally, nope. I drink alcohol responsibly and it’s one of my favourite things, but I know that for lots of people it’s a health and social disaster so I don’t think it should be on our shirts. Likewise, gambling is harmless fun to loads but To many others, most of them the more disadvantaged, it’s devastating. Can someone help me down from my soapbox, I’m a bit pissed.

Stay on your soap box. McDonalds sponsorship of athletics can go in the same toilet.

As we become understanding of mental health, I suspect that in due course shirt sponsorship by betting companies will go the sames way that alcohol sponsorship did due to the detrimental effect of drink on physical health.
