I feel a bit weird.

Of course you do. You’re a lawyer.

I didn't think you lot had feelings. 😋

It was a different kind of day, instead of pitching up at Harrow we went straight to Wembley and drank close to the Green. There were a couple of teenagers with us who enjoy all that leaping around holding Pyrotechnics and to be fair the atmosphere was very good, I could've done without the proliferation of public urinating but there didn't seem to be many public toilets around.

The game itself was disappointing from a spectacle point of view but after last year I'm not complaining. I'm more enthused by promotion than I thought I'd be but Monday was all about us prevailing rather than caving in or not turning up and that's why I couldn't watch those added 7 minutes.

The subsequent reaction of the club and it's staff has been spot on which leaves me hopeful for next season and I will miss the cut and thrust and entertainment value of the Championship but as Deano said, Aston Villa in the top flight? It just feels right.

Back at work today and I'm still in absolute delirium.

People keep congratulating me like I'm about to be a father or something, is this what it feels like to support a successful club?

What a brilliant, perfect, magical bloody weekend.

It's not a success though is it, in the grand scheme of things. We're back where we've spent most of our existence and bar Everton, more time than anybody else.

It's an achievement, it's not success and balance is restored. This is the re-start, nothing more.

I feel a bit weird.

I enjoyed winning and it was a great day out, but...after walking out of Wembley I didn't feel elated and I haven't at any point since.

I guess the only way to describe the feeling is more a wrong being righted than an achievement. Maybe it's all the pressure and thinking about results, permutations of others, the upcoming fixtures and all of that being lifted.

I'm the same.  Monday was the correction of an historical aberration.

We're now back to where we were when Houllier was in charge but with the opposite trajectory!

You know I totally understand that argument (and I definitely agree with us no having a bus parade or anything like that), but to be honest I think we have to think of it as a success

We've achieved our primary objective from the last 3 years, and we've given an entire generation of Villa fans their first ever sight of a cup victory.

It's the first trophy I've ever seen Villa lift, and it's easily my best day supporting Villa. At 24, I'm sure many on here had seen much more, but relative to our current situation, this is huge.

Mission accomplished.

Absolutely crying at this on the facebook page.

McGinn is on his brother's stag do, Mings is wandering around Bournemouth in his full kit and Jack is still celebrating. It would be a logistical nightmare to organise it anyway!

Ive heard about these

Any links for those of us that don't facebook

Agreed. I've read people talking about wanting statues built ffs. Let's wait until we've achieved something of note, eh.

I was delighted on the day and the lads should be very proud of what they've done in the last third of a season, but you're absolutely right; normal service has been restored. We shouldn't be acting like we're Huddersfield, excited about being able to have a nice trip out to see big clubs.

Monday was great but it was an embarrassment to be in that league to start with, and the several seasons leading up to it were shamefully poor on all fronts.

The club are absolutely right not to consider a public celebration.

That's for tin pot nothing clubs like Albion or Wigan.

The memories of going mental when El Ghazi scored and the disbelief on the faces of everyone around me when the ball dropped out of the sky and was somehow in the Derby net for the second will never leave me. We don't need a civic reception to keep those kinds of things in our collective memory.

It was a great day out and nice to see us win something at Wembley. But this is only the first step.
As great as it is to be above the Blues, Albion etc' we have just spent 10 years being a complete basket case of a club, and we now need an equally long period of stability.
We only ever managed a fourth place finish in 3 seasons in the Championship.
Don't look back in anger, it is now all about looking forward again.
Thank God we did it.

The play-offs do mean something - obviously we're back where we should be, and it's great to see a Villa captain (or two) lift a pot at Wembley. It's no Peace Cup, admittedly, but then what could be?

Joking aside, I view it like Clough talked about the Watney's Cup or whatever it was. That first trophy which convinced Forest they could really achieve. Smith will look at that game as the step which enables a greater climb, and when we're looking at the roll of honour in a decade's time, hopefully we'll see he was absolutely right to do so.

This is why I love reading and following H&V was it real success or just job done and normal order restored?
Well for me it felt better than all my previous trips to Wembley given it was the first time I have seen us win a final at Wembley!
The great people me and my son met and spent most of the day with will mean friends for the rest of our lives sharing such an important moment.
I have spoken to Derby, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday fans and believe me they would give everything to swap places.
I thought I would cry at the end, my son did.
The reason I didn't was because the joy was tempered by the frustration of ever having to be in this position in the first place.
So yes on balance it is an achievement and we are back where we should always be.
But let the younger generations revel in the moment after an abysmal decade. They need to be ready for the next chapter of this clubs march back to the top.

I appreciate for our young fans it's the only trophy they've seen us win but it's right not to have a parade. Perhaps the club can have the trophy on display at villa park  for those who want to see it close up and take photos with it.
