Get T.F in!
Great performance. El Ghazi was excellent. A constant menace.
Mings, magnificent again. Gutted he got injured. The backline did well. Steer just played like a veteran of the game. Pure composure throughout, despite not being significantly tested but compare him to Roos at the other end.
McGinn, non stop as per normal.

Brilliant. Dean Smith has been an absolute McGrath-send to the club.

I'm so bloody glad to be out of this division. It feels like for the first time since O Neill fucked off (and even then, after losing twice at Wembley and being unable to make that step beyond 6th again, that we'd peaked) that we're looking up. Obviously going up a division helps that, but I feel the club is going somewhere. I think we've got enough of a spine in place to place solidly in the Prem.

After 9 years of consistent decline and disappointment, and dire management (across the club...top to bottom) it FINALLY feels like we're building a proper footballing ethos. We have owners in place with a bit of clout and they'll now have the freedom from FFP to do some good summer business (whilst keep our best, and hopefully signing up some of these loan stars).

If you run a club properly and get the right management and plan ahead, it'll pay off. This was make or break. I think had we lost today we'd have recovered and Deano would always keep us a decent side at that level (but we'd forever be losing our best players). But winning today is huge. We can go up with Grealish and McGinn. Build around that quality. Next season. Stay up. Whatever it takes. Then grow. Onwards and upwards. I said it before at the end of Randy's reign, but we needed to go down. We were rotting. We made poor choices, and thus the system reboot has taken longer thsn we'd have liked, things work out for a reason, and I really feel like Deano can take us forward and make us a solid premier league side again. If we have to settle for mid-table for a few years, so be it, but I'd hope we'll be playing well in doing that. Below Liverpool and City, there's potential for clubs to close in on the rest. So in the next few years, lets be part of that. It's not just the money clubs like City can spend, it's the work they put in and the clear philosophies they have (yeah the money helps...but spending willy nilly doesn't work anymore...Utd will tell you).

So lets build. Rejuvinate. We've been helped through with a lot of experience who have made some of our younger players really come of age. Now Grealish is skipper, he can help our youngster coming in and younger signings we make. Lets learn from things that work, things that we failed on under and beyond O Neill. Do it right, and just be enjoyable to watch.

We needed to get relegated all those years to clear out the shite. Dean has come in along with a root and branch clean up and clear out of the club and for thje first time in a long time we have a management structure who know what they're doing, owners with cash, a proper footballing manager with nous, a midfield duo around which the team should build, a fan base I would pit against any in this world...and we're back where we belong. Villa...never EVER again find yourselves in that position. We're home.

Yeah, 2.30am here too. I'm still shaking. Dunno what to do with myself. These occasions are nearly always overwhelming and when you have a win even more so.

I loved seeing Deano take a swig from the bottle in front of the camera, seeing him in front of the faithful arms aloft. I'll be living off that today. Everyone should be proud and played a part but for mine it's Deano.

Oh god, just fantastic!

I love this team and manager more than any since 1982, hope we can keep it together. Good players, great people who actually care about each other, the club and the fans and know which side their bread is buttered. Can’t ask for more, and a special word about Elmo - struggled badly in Jan and Feb, since then, not a foot wrong, not one foot, what a cross today for the first. Love him.

Grealish can now attain legend status here. Going up means we don't have to wonder 'what if.' This is going to be a big season for him coming up. I think as long as we stay up and look like we're progressing he'll give us a couple of years at least. But progressing as a side is going to be very much based on how Grealish steps up in the Premier League. He's a special player. He'll be in the England side by Christmas. He's a classy player to have and best of all his love for the club is undoubted.

Elated we are back but I must say I did enjoy a lot of moments in the championship.

Yeh that’s the dilemma isn’t it, but you never know we may step up to play good football in the PL which we haven’t seen since........... er I can’t remember

When did we last play good football in the Prem at Villa Park? O'Neill away we were often good but not consistent at home. O'Dreary's 1st Season?

Tony Xia there as well. Dunno if I actually care about him anymore.

Fucking over the moon!
 ;D ;D ;D

In a way I'm happy he was there. He gambled on getting us up and it very nearly fucked us. However, I'll thank him for caring which I genuinely believe he does and most importantly for selling us to two fucking properly minted blokes.

This isn't a time for Xia talk though. It's one when ALL VILLA come together and celebrate. It's been a fucking long, long road back. What a brilliant summer now.

He's a good player who is only going to get better. I hope we can secure his services and Mings. Throw in Hause and Chester that is a very decent CB grouping for next season.

Two stand out moments from a tense but fulfilling afternoon for me.

SJM’s dummy in the centre circle in the build up to the first goal and Emperor Mings disarming Huddleston after the fracas at the start of the second half.

It feels fucking wonderful to be back, for the first time in almost 10 years the mighty Aston Villa are on the way back.

Got to say, Connor has come on a lot in the last 6 months. He's always had a lot of quality and produced 'the sexy stats' but I've noticed him getting more aggressive, a bit meaner and just tougher of late and it's making him a better player. It's meaning he's impacting games more, outside of hitting belters or his assists rate. I think he'll do well in the Prem. He'll be an important player for us and he compliments McGinn and Jack well too.

Although he didn't play today, Glenn Whelan made probably the most important single contribution in the whole season to our promotion.

His last minute penalty miss in the 3-3 draw against Preston was the final nail in Bruce's coffin.

He was sacked 2 days later and .......

Here we are today.

Thanks Glenn.

Agreed. I’ve been one of his biggest critics this season, but first half especially, I thought he bossed it and was probably our best midfielder until SJM came into it more in the second half. Congrats for making us eat humble pie Conor 👏🏼

Congratulations to everybody at the Club.  How they have turned this around in such a short space of time, I will never know.  Confidence is often underplayed but it is massive in football and it has been turned around by Dean Smith and his coaching team.

I have always been confident of us going up if we played to our potential but I think we have tensed up, the closer we have got to the end of the season.

We are back and I am so happy.  All hail the cabbage!!

It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, we needed to go this season and to do so with Smith in charge as well as with Jack and SGM in the side feels that little bit more special.

Of the loan lads I hope we sign Mings and Axel as well as El Ghazi, we have the makings of a decent Premier league team but need some quality adding over the summer.

Well done boys, you have made my year!

It’s important to do it right. Get the likes of Mings and El Ghazi in permanently, and spend the money we have on real quality. Don’t want to do a Fulham and spend lots of money, alienating the players in the core of the squad.

Jesus ch....that last 15 minutes! Just when you think we're going to have our first routine Wembley final win since 1996 they go and give us a bit more torture one last time at this level.

Wouldn't have it any other way even if football matches chip away at your life expectancy.

Thought we deserved it anyway against a tricky team who kept going at 2 down. They deserve the goal although extra time would've been a robbery.

Important after the last decade we just soak this up for the next week. Arguing who should be our left back next season can wait for the start of June.

😁

Despite Mings and McGinn giving their usual quality performances, MOTM for me today...... Connor Hourahane. If he plays like that every week he'll be good enough for next season as well. Special mention to El Ghazi too, not usually a big fan but played well today and had the biggest impact in the final third.

Oh my God! due to a long standing commitment I had to take my best mate to the dentist today as he's undergoing dental implants and as he doesn't drive I've been taking him.  I had to collect him from his workplace at 3pm and didn't get home until 5:20.  I had maintained a media blackout all afternoon as my nerves wouldn't have stood it.  As I walked through our door Mrs S asked had I heard the score whilst using a sad face, she couldn't keep it up though and I knew then that we had won.  Aston Villa, you have made an old man very happy today.

I've been on the phone ever since, first to my lad over in England, then my daughter and my three grandsons.  I'm absolutely elated.  My daughter reminded me that I said when we were relegated that it would be at least three years before we got back.  Mystic Meg I 'aint.

I said it before at the end of Randy's reign, but we needed to go down. We were rotting.

Not to pick holes in a day like today, but there can never be an argument for going down.

Lerner was ultimately a duff owner, so what we needed was better ownership in the topflight.

What a day. We had chaos at the start not getting on the train so had to drive but from there was a special special day.

Very very shocked derby did not start Marriott. Played hugely into our hands.

As for the game very cagey but we were on top. Huge goal just before half time which our pressure deserved. Would liked us to play through the middle a bit more but we got the job done!!! That last 15 mins was sheer hell but tbf I was delighted with 7 mins I thought we were looking at 10!!!

Steer -8 - did everything asked of him especially those two held crosses. Deserves to play in the premier league

Elmo- 8 - post Leeds at home he got pelters but he has really improved quality cross for the first

Taylor - 7- solid and again has stepped up

Mings -9- we have to sign him over any other player. The guy oozes class

Axel- 8 - superb and is premier league let’s hope it’s woth the Villa

Hourihane -8- a player I slated post the good run but today he really performed broke up play and made tackles good on ball too

Adomah -6- solid and was surprised he was taken off. Not good at prem league level

McGinn- 9- the guy is the signing of the season. So good he got the winner

Jack -7- quieter than normal but calm on the ball and so pleased he will captain his boyhood team in the premier league

El ghazi 9 motm - direct threatening we must sign him

Tammy -6- good on the ball not without it. Huge input across the season but I would not sign him. Hugely controversial but if I had 30m I’d take it to Bournemouth not Chelsea

Dean Smith and staff -10- heroes

Enjoy the night villa fans come on you lions

My wife booked a holiday in RAMsgate of all places back when I thought we had no chance of making the playoffs. Watched the game in a pub full of derby fans, no idea why. I think I gave an elderly local bloke a heart attack when we scored the first. Never relaxed, even at 2-0, just knew Vila wouldn’t make it easy. Those last 10 minutes were horrible.UTV

Brilliant day at Wembley. Strange game, pitch seemed a bit dry?, but deserved win. Don't think we were anywhere near our best but we did enough. On a day when the likes of Grealish struggled, lesser lights like Elmo, Hourihane and El Ghazi were superb. McGinn was excellent in second half. We stopped playing for about 10 mins when cruising and Derby got back into it. Strange team selection from Lampard didn't help the Derby cause and they were very poor late rally aside.

Huge job of work over the summer. Mings is a must buy but the club is far stronger now.

Steer 7, Elmo 8, Tuanzebe 6, Mings 7, Taylor 5, Hourihane 7, McGinn 8, Grealish 6, El Ghazi 9, Abraham 6. Green 5, Hause 6.

Tony Xia there as well. Dunno if I actually care about him anymore.

Fucking over the moon!

More importantly what were his shoes like today??

Its like a massive weight lifted of your shoulders to be out of this division and back at the top, brilliant performance, knew when the 2nd went in it would take a monumental effort by Derby to turn it around, pointers..170ml which increases to 300ml if we stay up, so back in the Premiership and a massively rich club again if we do this right.

Well done everybody at the club.

Wow, what a great day. Didn't get off to a good start - every time we go to Wembley I park at Hillingdon station and get the tube to Wembley Park - got to Hillingdon normal time and it was completely full. Fortunately, for the first time ever, I had a plan B,C and D and got parked at my plan B tube station and from then on it was a fantastic day. Thought Fwank got his tactics wrong - and so did most of the Derby fans on the way back after the game. If he'd started with Waghorn and Marriott it may have been a different result - they threw the kitchen sink at us for the last 15 minutes and we did well to survive the onslaught after being the better team for the rest of the game. The despair when the board went up showing 7 minutes was surpassed by the absolute elation when the final whistle went. Great to see Wills on the big screens celebrating with big John. Back to the land of hype and money!

Sitting very happy in a kings cross pub - relaxed first half, though grealish had thrown it away with that cross pass to no one. Otherwise great first half and brilliant 2 saves from steer and it was ours. Thank god for that. Talking to a few derby fans after Marriott got caught on a sickie playing golf - that could have won us the match. I’ll have a few more tonight!

A great game, which Derby contributed to equally. You don’t enjoy a game like that, it shreds your nerves – you do enjoy the result. I would like to know why the referee played sixteen hours, and not sixteen minutes after Derby scored. Both sets of fans were magnificent with good humour before- and after.

I predicted that a single goal would decide the game, and so it proved.

The lower half of the PL will not be pleased at Villa’s return, the Champ will miss our crowds, and the promotion aspiring teams would rather Huddersfield, Fulham and Cardiff to deal with without Villa in the mix.

Tonight is about celebration. But when the hangovers clear there will be much to reflect upon.

This is a successful Villa side, it has won promotion. However, no-one would claim that this is a great side. We are no match for the Wolves side that won promotion.

Will Grealish stay? Should he stay? Rumour has it that whatever happens Spurs, possible European Champions, certainly offering CL football, offering guaranteed PL football, and with a bigger wage budget ,will sign him. On the pitch, Grealish is  a game changer. Yet the team will need changing and the £40m that he will command could be usefully reinvested, as can his PL wages.

Dean Smith has done fantastic a job – but he is a PL novice, will he adapt? Will he be given time to adapt? Should Villa make a pre-emptive move for a PL veteran? I hope he does adapt – but he will not be given time if results are adverse towards Christmas and relegation is on the horizon.  Romance is for Mills and Boon. Credit to Steve Bruce for bringing in John McGinn (amongst others), just as important to us as Grealish.

Then there are the loanees. Particularly Tammy Abraham.  A Chelsea transfer embargo and /or Lampard going to the Bridge will pretty much guarantee his leaving. However, Tammy likes playing and scoring, if the circumstances are right securing him secures goals, a vital commodity in our first season back. He will also have one eye on England – playing for Villa, is better than not playing for Chelsea.

The rumours are that we will fall foul of  EFL FFP rules. But they don’t apply in the PL so best not get relegated!

Strangely, I will be sorry to leave the Champ. We won loads of games, took massive travelling support to some great places, and enjoyed big home gates.  Leeds, Blues, Forest and Derby away are much more fun than Bournemouth, Burnley, Palace and Watford. Of course I want to compete with the best, but those last five PL seasons were no fun, the past three have been.

We’re back.

The same for me Brian.  The younger supporters would really have little understanding of how important to our generation this is, not making light of their sense of importance but, as you get older...

Whilst on this subject, let's all spare a thought for all those HEITS that passed away this season and didn't get to see this today.

Lovely. And for anyone who has had a relative with dementia so relatable (not the Premier League manager bit obviously), those few precious seconds of recognition I mean.

Quote
“To be honest, I went to see my old man on Friday and he kept his eyes open for two minutes and I said ‘the next time I come to see you I’ll be a Premier League manager'.  And he smiled and nodded, so for me, that’s enough.”

This. Beautiful. Lovely. Rare. What every supporter of any club wants.

But also those who have no historical connection with the Villa - the likes of El Ghazi and Elmo, both MAGNIFICENT for two/three months, have bought into what we are, and that’s brilliant management by Deano but also shows that they are professional and nice people who care about team mates and fans. More or less with you, thought it was a toss up between El Ghazi and Elmo for MOM whilst McGinn was incredible second half. However, thought Hause was a TEN. Brilliant cameo, got his head  on the end of every cross and headers went a mile. Commanding stuff, if anything, was even better than Tyrone.

I agree with everyone hoping we never play SHA again.

With the enormity of the occasion today, since 5pm my mind has only really been able to process the small things in life. Apt, therefore, that my main feeling has been one of relief that we won't have to play those utter scumbags or West Bromwich next season.

Wolves are an irrelevance as I've only ever met a handful of their fans and they've all been 'village idiot of the year' contenders. But the 'shit on the Villa' alliance are just a constant hair in the eye - not worrying or upsetting, but just irritating and uncomfortable enough to stop you enjoying your day - so I'm glad to be leaving them behind.

But today isn't about our insecure neighbours. It's about Dean, Jack, SJM, the rest of the squad and the tens of thousands of fans who did us proud today. Back where we belong. UTV!

Just found this on the Derby County Forum - most saying good things about us. Fair play to them. They have sussed out the Small Heath degenerates for who they really are.
(https://i.ibb.co/645sWhw/Rams-post.jpg) (https://ibb.co/645sWhw)

Met a few today and only one pissed woman on the train was a problem.
After the game they pretty much said what we were saying after last year, one team played to win and the other did not until it was too late.
Decent folk Derby fans.

Is it just me, or was Elmo something else today ? Also, love how players like Hause and Jedinak have played crucial bit parts in the play offs. SAYS something 're a team ethos.

No, not just you, I thought he had a really good game, although Green gave him no help when he came on.
After the disappointments at Wembley in recent years, the last 10 minutes were nerve shredding, but until they scored we'd looked really composed.

Great day, family meet up at Harrow on the Hill, great view today and great result which is all that mattered in the end.

Some great bits today:
The future King punching the air
Jedinak dishing out instructions from the side of the pitch
Pitarch in tears, Jack getting twatted by the trophy
Wes and Nassef hugging
Every Villa player, in the squad or not, was absolutely chuffed.
Magic.  The fallen giant is back on its feet.

Just got back in at Northfield having left at 7. Absolutely fucking hanging. Beers on train with strangers, beers in boxpark with strangers all great. Game was great. Some unsavoury stuff on way to Baker Street where a group of Derby Yoof basically said to another group of vanilla fans move your Mate from here or we will fuck him up. Other thàn that. Had a great day and fuck loads of beer and have a crush on El Gazi.

Only just got back in after being at Wembley earlier (traffic, a meal and then dropping people off in various locations) and have to say, that like others, I just feel an overwhelming sense of relief.

As for the game, it is one match where the result is everything and performances don't matter one iota.  Like we did on many occasions during our extended winning run at the end of the season, we found a way to win without being spectacular.  I thought Derby hardly threatened until the closing stages, but we hung on and got over the line.

Only really downside for me was the behaviour of a minority of our fans that I witnessed before the game.  A coach of Derby fans went past that green area and was pelted with a few beer cans at first, but then with bottles and other objects.  Some of the windows on the coach were smashed, which was out of order, particularly as there may well have have been families on there.   As I say, it was just a minority though and the vast majority of our fans were in high spirits and created a great atmosphere.

Aston Villa often make a lot of us cry for the wrong reasons. Yesterday they did so in a good way. Now  the club have some very tough decisions to make in bringing the right players in, and just as importantly, letting  players go, not just those out of contract, but elephants in the room like RM. The new owners seem to have  re energized the club and long may it continue, but if we want to stay in the promised land, some very business-like decisions have to be taken. As for yesterday - just marvelous. Some Talkshite presenters were last night asking if Villa are a big club - probably the most rhetorical question ever.

Well said. I thought I was the only one who noticed.

Great day yesterday and quite emotional. Was driven there and back  by my son, a provisional license holder (non motorway route only). Breakfast with my family in Watford where my daughter lives. Drinks on the green. Gave up my ticket to my daughter who was absolutely thrilled to receive it and saw Villa win at Wembley for her 1st time. Watched the match in Flannery's Bar with my wife and many fellow Villans. The scenes in there at FT were brilliant. After match drinks in the Holiday Inn preceded my son driving us back home for midnight. Met many great Villans throughout the day. The team were fantastic as were the management, prince Will and John Carew! An unforgetable day for my family and one we will always cherish. UTV!

My mate and his son were staying in the Wembley Hilton and invited me and another mate back for a drink after the game. Bloody Hell.....the team were there celebrating. They had a private lounge, but loads of the team drifted out to celebrate with the fans in the foyer.Mings was still in full kit 😁.Finally had to leave as had train to catch back to Brum, looked to my left and realised I was stood by Dean Smith, shook his hand , he was very gracious to any fan who approached him.Great end to a great day.

Not a great game but Dean tucked them up tactically, with Jack being very closely marked he and Taylor freed up a lot of space for El Ghazi and he used that freedom very well. I thought that we were pretty comfortable all the way through and wasn’t too concerned even in the last 10 mins.

Derby fans all seemed fine although a large group of what I imagine were their more excitable element drinking very close in Kilburn could have had a less calm outcome.

Good atmosphere, great result. Lots to do now.

I wish they’d have given the tannoy music a rest at the end though.

what a mad few months. 10 wins in a row to cement the playoffs. Beat the bitter baggies over two legs to reach the final. Cruising at 2-0 and hunting a third, but let Derby back into it, setting up a nerve jangling last 15-20 mins. 7 minutes of injury time. Villa don’t do things by halves do we?

Much as it has been a crazy drama unfolding over the weeks, I don’t think I could physically handle another playoffs!

Not sure what happened with the tickets, but seemed like loads of empty seats in the Derby side bit second half. Villa were very loud on TV. You only really heard and competing singing early on and just after they scored. I’m guessing the atmosphere would’ve been fantastic in the Villa areas. Sounded great on telly.

Thought we dominated Derby without really too much fuss. Their right hand side was the only threat they seemed to carry and we looked a bit suspect, but rarely in serious danger.

Mad scenes with the prince and Carew. Deano, jack and all the players afterwards. Some real good behind the scenes shots with them inside the stand waiting to go up to get the trophy. Got to bed at 2.30 am and up at 6.30 for work. Been spaced all day, but 100% worth it!!

What a day, great day with my lad even though couldn't get him a ticket in the end - he watched in Flannery's too.  The one thing I want to note is that in the ground, we didn't have a single SOTC, My Old man and only one "Birmingham are you listening" from what I recall.  So pleased the fanbase saw it as about us not them whilst the game was on.

Yesterday was just immense. I've got a slight dodgy throat, caught a little bit too much sun and the back of my leg hurts from where I bashed it against the chair after the first goal. (limbs I believe the kids call it). I was really surprised at the Derby team sheet. Not playing one of your best two strikers was a crazy thing to do in a game like that but taking nothing away from us, I thought we played really well overall. I don't think anyone had a bad game. As for those last 10-15 minutes, they were just horrendous. I was sitting down not looking whenever they went forward, I couldn't take it.

We're back!

Just home.  That last ten minutes was the longest of my life.  Absolutely overwhelmed with joy, pride and a feeling of a huge crushing weight having been lifted off my life.  There were times in the last few seasons when I thought I would never see us back in the First Division.

The same for me Brian.  The younger supporters would really have little understanding of how important to our generation this is, not making light of their sense of importance but, as you get older...

Whilst on this subject, let's all spare a thought for all those HEITS that passed away this season and didn't get to see this today.
You may not have seen them at Wembley but the HEITS were all there looking down on us with joy in their hearts.

A rollercoaster season ends with us all looking forward to a Summer of transfer speculation in the most positive way for once. Its who shall we buy, not who might we have to sell! If I was the owners I would have had the lawyers back at the Hotel last night with contracts ready to sign for AEG, Emperor, Hause, Tuanzebe and Tammy.
My best day at Wembley ever, tops Liverpool, as it means so much.

I've been supporting Villa since 1967, and I've seen us every time at Wembley since the 71 final, but that was the most special day.
The connection between the club, players and fans is back again after several years of bitterness and division, that is the most special part for me.
One can only dream now as to the progress planned by our new owners, and the next few seasons are going to be the best yet I believe.
We have got our Villa back.

It wasn't our greatest ever achievement winning this game but the significance had we not could have been pretty horrific for the club. Losing the two you mention for starters, no realistic possibility of hanging onto the loan players who have transformed us since Dean came on board and add to that the FPP potential punishment hanging over us. We're up, now we need to stay up and build.

I have heard that the Future King was advised that he needed a high level of protection at Villa games.  The club offered to provide a dozen MI6 plain clothes hitmen or Jonker.  The Future King said Jonker will do nicely thank you.

Just watching the match to see what actually happened yesterday as being at Wembley was a bit of haze for me to tell you the truth. When my friend said great time to score a minute before half time I was genuinely shocked. Time had just flown by and even the the 7 minutes of injury time just disappeared.
Their goal didn’t worry me at all as we had total control and TBT it was an easy match.  Met some great Derby fans before the match. Didn’t see many after😊

Saw Sarkic in the Box Park wearing his shirt with his name on it.  I'm at work but feel like death.  I suppose that' what happens when you have your first beer at 7am and get to bed at 1 am the following day. I too was hungover on the train home before I'd actually gone to bed.

The most disgusting train journey I have ever endured. We have utter retards as "fans"
Never again.

What happened mate?

Was told there were a load of Villa fans drinking on a green when the players coach went past. Singing, cheating fantastic. A few minutes later a Derby supporter's coach drove past, bottles thrown etc, frightening.

My brother said that 'Arry Redknapp was also spotted driving past and his car got pelted as well. Not needed.

I have supported Villa since 1967 and there have been lots of ups and downs but I think this has been the most dramatic season of all.
When you think we couldn't even pay our bills a year ago to getting promoted yesterday and everything that happened in between you couldn't make it up.
I was so nervous before and during the game that I ended up drinking too much.
The game started at 10pm here so I was well juiced up by the end.
I woke up the wife a couple of times and I am in the doghouse today together with the mother of all hangovers.
I haven't watched the game back yet I thought I would wait until I feel less hung over.
Nothing can spoil that feeling of elation at what we have achieved though.
Looking forward to seeing the fixtures when they come out.

Still a bit groggy after yesterday so an early night tonight. Must say I have some good times in the championship and met some great fans of opposition clubs but now it's time to move on. Chapter one of the new owners has now ended and it's time for the second chapter. I really hope we dont spunk the money up the wall this time because the real stand out moment for ne in the last couple of months is the team spirit and togetherness of the players.. That added to the relationship with the fans has got us where we are now. Please Dean dont sign any Billy Big Bollocks, just sign players who understand the team mentality, the club mentality, and who understand the relationship players need to have with the fans. So a few weeks rest then premiership here we come... cant wait...Love AVFC

Still feels a little surreal as I was resigned to us being in that league forever. We've had plenty of false dawns in recent times, but the club feels united from top to bottom, having a fan as a manager and captain makes these times feel very special.  Though the heart sinks when you see blues type behaviour from our own supporters.

He’s apparently been told the cost of the repairs is £20K. Now, this strikes me as being massively overinflated (you can get an entire second hand coach for that), and if he wants to make a nice gesture, all it needs to be is the cost of the insurance excess, an amount for any increase in premiums and a couple of grand to reimburse the Derby fans on there. Trying to get £25K isn’t achievable, and isn’t really on.

Thought our fans were pretty loud, although perhaps not as loud as I've heard in other Wembley appearances from us, but the Derby fans were dreadful, barely any noise.

Pleasant enough between the two sets of fans, other than those stupid ****** smashing up that coach. What morons.

Sadly it was all so foreseeable - allow thousands  of people to congregate next to an access point for coaches and buses, allow them to drink bottles and cans of booze and unfortunately this is what can happen - I walked past the area before the incident and spoke with a few of the police officers who were keeping things light hearted - it's pathetic that a few cowards can lob objects towards a coach or bus whose passengers possibly included young kids on the biggest day of their young lives. It happened to me many years ago on a travellers club coach taking us to Newcastle - it's quite unnerving to have Windows being smashed whilst you are sat there totally helpless - as stated many times all clubs have their fair share of idiots it's just when we get big allocations it tends to attract a higher percentage of numpties
Hopefully nobody was injured

I feel a bit weird.

I enjoyed winning and it was a great day out, but...after walking out of Wembley I didn't feel elated and I haven't at any point since.

I guess the only way to describe the feeling is more a wrong being righted than an achievement. Maybe it's all the pressure and thinking about results, permutations of others, the upcoming fixtures and all of that being lifted.

Who would have known that in hindsight losing the play off final last year would have actually been for the best. Who knows how long Dr T could have ducked and dived with the Premier League money only for it to go tits up sooner or later.

I thought that was how I would feel, but I'm still absolutely on cloud 9.

I'm 51, seen us win the league and the big cup, but this feels every bit as good.

It's two things for me I think....the club I love had been ripped apart, with a poisonous attitude between fans and players/the club and that has been fixed in the most wonderful way so we can fully buy into this group and grow back to the top together.

The second one is far more personal, my lad who has only ever lived in the South East was bought up a Villa fan but never really bought into it will all his mates being Gooners etc., and he drifted that way.  The last 2-3 years (right at our low point) he has come back with a vengeance and properly loves it, reminds me of how I was about it at 18, and it was the first successful thing we have been able to properly enjoy and celebrate together.

It was a different kind of day, instead of pitching up at Harrow we went straight to Wembley and drank close to the Green. There were a couple of teenagers with us who enjoy all that leaping around holding Pyrotechnics and to be fair the atmosphere was very good, I could've done without the proliferation of public urinating but there didn't seem to be many public toilets around.

The game itself was disappointing from a spectacle point of view but after last year I'm not complaining. I'm more enthused by promotion than I thought I'd be but Monday was all about us prevailing rather than caving in or not turning up and that's why I couldn't watch those added 7 minutes.

The subsequent reaction of the club and it's staff has been spot on which leaves me hopeful for next season and I will miss the cut and thrust and entertainment value of the Championship but as Deano said, Aston Villa in the top flight? It just feels right.

It's not a success though is it, in the grand scheme of things. We're back where we've spent most of our existence and bar Everton, more time than anybody else.

It's an achievement, it's not success and balance is restored. This is the re-start, nothing more.

You know I totally understand that argument (and I definitely agree with us no having a bus parade or anything like that), but to be honest I think we have to think of it as a success

We've achieved our primary objective from the last 3 years, and we've given an entire generation of Villa fans their first ever sight of a cup victory.

It's the first trophy I've ever seen Villa lift, and it's easily my best day supporting Villa. At 24, I'm sure many on here had seen much more, but relative to our current situation, this is huge.

Mission accomplished.

Agreed. I've read people talking about wanting statues built ffs. Let's wait until we've achieved something of note, eh.

I was delighted on the day and the lads should be very proud of what they've done in the last third of a season, but you're absolutely right; normal service has been restored. We shouldn't be acting like we're Huddersfield, excited about being able to have a nice trip out to see big clubs.

Monday was great but it was an embarrassment to be in that league to start with, and the several seasons leading up to it were shamefully poor on all fronts.

The club are absolutely right not to consider a public celebration.

That's for tin pot nothing clubs like Albion or Wigan.

The memories of going mental when El Ghazi scored and the disbelief on the faces of everyone around me when the ball dropped out of the sky and was somehow in the Derby net for the second will never leave me. We don't need a civic reception to keep those kinds of things in our collective memory.

It was a great day out and nice to see us win something at Wembley. But this is only the first step.
As great as it is to be above the Blues, Albion etc' we have just spent 10 years being a complete basket case of a club, and we now need an equally long period of stability.
We only ever managed a fourth place finish in 3 seasons in the Championship.
Don't look back in anger, it is now all about looking forward again.
Thank God we did it.

The play-offs do mean something - obviously we're back where we should be, and it's great to see a Villa captain (or two) lift a pot at Wembley. It's no Peace Cup, admittedly, but then what could be?

Joking aside, I view it like Clough talked about the Watney's Cup or whatever it was. That first trophy which convinced Forest they could really achieve. Smith will look at that game as the step which enables a greater climb, and when we're looking at the roll of honour in a decade's time, hopefully we'll see he was absolutely right to do so.

This is why I love reading and following H&V was it real success or just job done and normal order restored?
Well for me it felt better than all my previous trips to Wembley given it was the first time I have seen us win a final at Wembley!
The great people me and my son met and spent most of the day with will mean friends for the rest of our lives sharing such an important moment.
I have spoken to Derby, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday fans and believe me they would give everything to swap places.
I thought I would cry at the end, my son did.
The reason I didn't was because the joy was tempered by the frustration of ever having to be in this position in the first place.
So yes on balance it is an achievement and we are back where we should always be.
But let the younger generations revel in the moment after an abysmal decade. They need to be ready for the next chapter of this clubs march back to the top.

How far we have travelled since those dark and dirty days... That I thought it might have been Fat Keith shows how ingrained that culture had really become at the club and until all too recently to boot.

I'm now just starting to believe that promotion hasn't just been a cruel windup, that the ref isn't going to call us back to disallow AEG or SJM's goals two days after the event, and that our Owners, CEO, DOF,  Head Coach, Captain and indeed the entire crew of the good ship Villa are steering a safe passage to a hallowed haven of palm trees, rum and coconuts, and half nekkid dusky maidens.

To quote Douglas Adams on this site for the second time this week, I think I feel good about it.

So if your chronology is correct it was the crumplets - for that is what they will always be from hereon in - that led to the hospital bed that led to the Bitter Olbiyon that led to the outpouring of H&V love that led to Super John McGinn doing a creditable impression of my Norfolk Terrier under Roos that led to Jack blacking his eye while lifting the trophy.

Anyone else still got their flag(s) on display in the house...?

Yep, after having swapped one with Maidstone Villan I have one claret and one blue, both hanging down the fireplace, unfortunately obscuring the positive affirmation hypnobirthing pic so probably better move them. It’s still sinking in, love that my Dad has been still on a high too!

I think that you, of all people, are hiding your light under a bushel here a bit Rodders. I  fully believe that those crumpets/pikelets that you made played a crucial role in our success!

The play-off final win was achieved without the appearance of an Orange Dot or Fish Pie

I tried to fly my flags from the balcony in Morecambe yesterday but it immediately started to rain so they are now drying over the bath!

One is being taken back to Birmingham for my little nephew at the weekend. His non-football liking parents surprised me by paying £9 to get Sky sports for the day so he could see it. He video whatapped me as I made my way back down Wembley Way - I couldn’t hear a word he was saying but could see he was bouncing! He had confidently just informed his parents that Aston Villa have won the World Cup!

What a great PR touch to have Deano AND Pursloe interviewed together. I'll bet there's never been such a 'we're on the same page' expression of reasoned ambition in football recent history. Almost brought tears to my eyes. Correction: it brought tears to my eyes. A hands on CEO - what next?

I don't think he was milking it. He was invited to attend by the current owners, he really hasn't claimed victory for this other than the comment he made right after which prompted that fat fuck Wyness to call him a fraud. I don't know that he has really said much more and I don't think he will.

He took over from Lerner when we needed someone to take over from Lerner. I can't remember the bloke at the time who told us how amazing Xia was as the sale was being finalized. He gambled across two years and our failure which I also put very much at Bruce's door nearly crippled us. But he sold us to two completely minted men who now have overseen the rejuvenation of the club. So for that I will say thanks and I hope now he continues to be a fan from a distance.

Have we got to the bottom of what’s going on with Xia yet? It’s obvious he either ran out of money or didn’t have the liquidity in what he does own to be able to finance us, and as he was in attendance I assume he still has a minority stake? With promotion will NSWE look to buy him out completely?

As far as I am aware he still has a 45% stake. Which now we are promoted is probably worth more than he paid for the club.

Nope. He's a minority holder, which means he owns less than 25%.

Whatever his current shareholding, Xia is Vice Chairman at Villa.

He's a director but he's not needed for quorum and equally his share is so diluted now that he effectively has no voting rights, as he's not required for ordinary or special resolutions.

£35m was allotted on 15th May, diluting his stake further.

Edit: since the notice if cessation of significant control was filed with CH, they've allotted £55m in additional shares. So he had less than 25% in January and it will be far less now.

As great as Monday was & the celebrations afterwards, it was for me anyway, a little bit hollow. It's a disgrace that a club like ours, through pure mismanagement, got into such a mess & Monday was a correction of that.

I enjoyed the day, with the Mrs & Son, neither of whom had witnessed anything like it.

From the brink of oblivion we're back & with some professionals in charge.

I'm glad I had no idea that Xia was at Wembley until I saw him on repeats the day after the final or it would have taken some of the gloss off the day for me. "milking it" is definitely the phrase I'd use to describe his actions at Wembley. If he had any sense of shame, he'd never attend another Villa game. So he managed to find a buyer for us? only because he'd dragged us to the brink of oblivion and run out of cash.... I mean, he "couldn't transfer funds out of China due to new regulations".

The first pic is of the back of the Doug and it's grubby grey appearance which goes with grey skies making the stadium look dull. Villa Park would be much improved with a redeveloped North wrapping round in unison with thebTrinity Road and Witton Lane.

The acoustics and sound would be trapped. The ground would be louder, look better and be more intimidating for away support inside the ground.

Think you're right. Given Derby's beef with Leeds starting from January beating them was what they wanted and that felt a mini play off final win with their celebrations.

It was similar to us beating Liverpool in FA cup semi final and mass celebrations after. Yes a brilliant day but we then had the tourist look on cup final day and it showed on the pitch from first minute. Same for Derby although obviously closer game.

Final day was a long one as I went there and back. Left my house at 5.30am and got home at 2am on Tuesday.  I also managed a 2 day hangover to follow.

We were in the North Star on the Finchley Road at 10am before a wander down to Swiss Cottage. H+Vers on show everywhere.

It was good fun. We also had the German and Italian contingents there after the match as well.

Some statto at the match reminded me that Villa's Wembley record during the past (declining!) nine years is not too shabby. 6 appearances in 9 years is an average of once every 18 months - fairly respectable outside of the clusterfuck at the top of the Prem League.

And our winning  percentage, in that time, is 2 out of 6 or 33%, which compares quite favourably with the right-wing distraction and divide project known by the 'B' word where 36% of the electorate or 26% of the population decided that people in the UK will have their social and economic lives fucked-over - long-term, big-time - even more than before the vote.

There were a lot of Derby fans there for a big day out. We turned meaning business.

I was at the Cottage after the game too but you would only know me as the guy who stood on the table and took the group photo!

I will try to sort it later. 3 missing from here that were there are Woodhall, Archie and Richard E so presumably they were inside. In the break with habits of a lifetime, Woodhall purchased a round so it might have been then. Clearly success went to his head.

Talking of rounds, the day after Wembley I checked my debit card account ( it acted as a handy record of which pubs I'd been to because I was too pissed to remember) and I saw that I paid £56 for one round in the Black Lion, Kilburn. That was probably about 3 pints....

I was in Derby on Thursday night and chatted to the taxi drivers who ferried me around. Very magnanimous about our victory and reckoned they would have been murdered in the premier league.

I had to put one bloke right as he claimed that Derby had an extra 2-3000 fans there as we hadn't sold all our tickets.

Ha ha. TheTimVilla's nipper Adam. The thin greying chap in the middle, who looks a lot like Chris Jameson, is Andrea from the Italian lot. The bespectacled giant at the back is Christian from the German Villains. I struggle a little with Andrea in terms of conversing as we are both shite at other languages outside our native tongue. Christian is ace. We have had many a beer at various games and he sorted a load of our lot with tickets in the home end but right next to the Villa fans in Hamburg.

As it goes, I haven't had as much to do with the Latin Lions as our linguistic expert Frank (other them bringing Gianluca Pagliuca to The Bartons but that is a story for another day). I have had some rather riotous nights out with the Germans and Scandinavian Villa groups though.

There can't be too many people who have five or six pals in the Faroe Islands, the same in Germany and the same in France like me. The power of the Villa!

There’s potentially a nice story developing as I’ve asked Latin Lion Archie to get in touch with Gianluca: there is a guy on Facebook who on request, gave his new Platt shirt to the Sampdoria keeper in the Wembley preseason tournament 29yrs ago and only just heard about who that was and that G is a Villa fan who even got a tattoo to celebrate us going up.

If there is a meet up after all this time it’s probably worthy of official site/programme fodder, anybody know who’s best to get in touch with for this?

What a great day!!

Walked from the Travelodge in Watford past Cassiobury Park, where the Watford lads used to train when the Great GT was the manager. saw a Red Kite flying quite low over a game of cricket -obviously an omen, what with that v-shaped tail...

Found a place to eat our sandwiches when who should walk past but Martin Laursen and his three kids!!

Went into the stadium and had a good look round. The Villa fans on the concourse were almost deafening with the chanting that was going on. I was hoping they'd have enough left for the game itself, but I needn't have worried.

Thought we bossed the game without playing anywhere nearly as well as we can do. Smith was positive -Conor as DM, whereas Derby had two DMs, a sign of Lampard's fear of us?

After the game, the singing and celebrations were fabulous, shaking hands and hugging people I didn't even know. Eventually we left -and on our way out bumped into the legendary Ken McNaught!!

Like I said, what a day!
