I reckon if SJM had started, we would probably have comfortably won by 2 or 3 goals, thought he was superb, when he came on he changed the game, his first touch was a great through ball. Also top class Mings and of course Captain Jack. Great win

UP THE VILLA

I disagree, the way the game went in that first half I think having Whelan on benefited us. I love SJM and he's one of our better players but he can be a bit erratic tackle wise, as it was he was only on for half an hour after the game had calmed down and still picked up a booking. Bringing him on when we did was what won the game imo.

Agree 100%.
Bringing on a fully fit and pumped SJM after 60 minutes worked perfectly.
He helped win the game for us while Whelan helped us weather the storm early on.

We'll need a fucking massive mirror to fit that lot on.

We'll have to borrow that room at Versailles.

Good performance all round really. Two fairly matched sides on the whole, but ultimately that extra touch of class saw us come out on top in a game that started very cagily. I think both sides knew, as far as a top 6 drive, this was must win.

The back line were good. Mings in particular and Hause too. The fullbacks played well. Even the much maligned Taylor had a fairly solid game.
Shoutout to Steer. He played our first game of the season and was good. We shipped him out. We then had months of slightly frightening goalkeeping from Nyland (he did improve to be fair, and his injury was sadly timed for him). Lovre came in and was a little shaky to start. Has Steer really let us down this season? Not for me, and he's hopefully going to finally get the run he deserved. I think our other two keepers have plenty of potential certainly (particularly Kalinic) so I'd probably be satisfied to see the current 3 go into next season, even if we go up. Steer was very composed today. Well played Jed because we've not dished out a lot of love to our goalkeepers this season on the whole.

Grealish as said a lot by all...class.
McGinn changed the game at a crucial point. He also offered the sort of movement that freed up Hourihane a bit more and he was much better in the second half after a quiet first. For me, without getting ahead, those three have plenty of ability that will suit the Premiership.

Green also played pretty well when he came on. Adomah has struggled to impact the game in offence, but conversely was disciplined going back.

4 points off the play offs. Plenty of time to go.

Obviously delighted by the result. They hate us all the more because we have a local lad who is a hero and wins derbies for us. It must fucking hurt them more than anything.

The most bizarre thing for me is that he had a Zulu Bomber Jacket on....FFS, hilarious!

Thought we deserved to win without playing great, overall we had the better chances. Jack was immense, considering what he went through. Thought  Hause looked shaky on the right, Mings was superb, even Taylor played well. McGinn made a difference when he came on, onwards and upwards. UTV.

How does having the city's name give them a moral high ground? They really are bizarre.
It's all they have. And after today they don't even have that.

Juventus must hate having to play second fiddle to Torino.

Really?!

I never noticed when watching the clip.

A Zulu in a cowardly attack, what a surprise!

Did he do the Zulu hand signals to the crowd when he was escorted off the pitch?!

Rowett making excuses for him, showing your true colours today you utter knob.
What you on about?   Rowett said he should be locked up.  I thought he spoke well and was gracious throughout.

Twitter was created in 2006. This means no blues fan has ever got to tweet “Yes, great 3 points over Villa”
