That was horrendous on a number of levels, but we're back in the race.

What an absolutely classless club that is. All this "one fan shouldn't tarnish the reputation of an entire club" is bollocks, considering the reaction to so many in the ground to the incident.

Absolutely correct, you'll get some people that will say, 'that's football', ' all happened before', even players launching themselves into the crowd to have a go, the massive difference now are the times we are living in, this has to be punished, at least a 10 point deduction, this is what would be expected for a financial transgression by the club so pure violence of this sort shouldn't be any less.

Precisely, they'll probably build a statue of him and release a commemorative DVD of the incident.

Yep.  Many of them are probably already adding it as their screensavers and plastering it on the walls of their rat hole pubs as we speak.

Birmingham City Football Club would like to apologise to Jack Grealish and Aston Villa Football Club for an incident in this afternoon’s derby match.

We deplore the behaviour of the individual who committed this act and rest assured he will be banned from St. Andrew’s for life. The Club will also support any further punishment this individual may face in the eyes of the law.

The Club will be working with the relevant authorities to investigate all the circumstances and we will be reviewing our stadium safety procedures.

What happened has no place in football or society. Jack is a Birmingham lad and regardless of club allegiance should not have been subjected to this – there are no excuses.

Again, we apologise to Jack and all at Aston Villa Football Club.

Good to see Smith pointing out the '15,000 fans cheering on the attacker' which Sky and the BBC have failed to.

Apparently Small Heath have issued an official apology for the incident.

Through gritted teeth, no doubt.

Maybe but for the vast majority of that pondlife he'll be a hero
There's no doubt about it, Tait and Carr are heroes to them.

Absolute disgraceful loathsome club...horrible club, horrible team, horrible fans...absolute scum. The EFL and FA need to set a precedent and punish them with more than just a fine. The behaviour of their fans is replicated by their players on the pitch with cynical challenges and even up to the point of rugby tackling off the ball. Completely unacceptable behaviour on and off the pitch. Fuckin disgrace.

Massive respect and credit to the Villa players for keeping their heads under those circumstances. There were a few players that didn't perform (Whelan, Adomah, El Ghazi and Hourihane) but the forces of good overcame evil, and justice was done in the result...justice now needs to be served off the pitch to the evil bastard that assaulted Jack and suitable ramifications on the club.

Hope all the Villa fans get home safely this afternoon.

They have just shown and read out the longer full version of that statement on SKY.
