He was great last night.  Extinguished Duran.

If Mings was playing the game v Arsenal their first goal doesn’t happen. He wouldn’t let it happen. In fact, he should have buried that chance last night that came his way from a corner but I’ll give him a break on that as his attacking prowess is still a bit rusty. We have nobody who can react to an attacking corner the way he can. He just has that ability. The same in defence, he commands our area from aerial threat. He made Duran look very ordinary last night. If he can avoid any more injuries he should be part of our squad for a few more seasons at least.

It’s always a trade off.
Is Mings a better defender than Pau? Yes.

Is Pau a better distributor of the ball than Mings? Yes.

For me the majority of games I’d start Pau as the drop off in defending is more than offset by the increase in passing ability, and even against the ‘big’ teams Unai wants us to dominate possession.

Mings was immense last night and that type of game is probably where you’d start him over Pau.

The annoying bit is he’d probably be ideal for Newcastle away with the big gangly German to deal with but I think 2 games in a short space of time is too much for someone just coming back after time out. He may get a start against Salzburg.

Possibly, but Pau may also be better to suited to breaking their high press.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Three at the back and wing-backs it is.

Another performance like that and there'll be the usual gang of plastic imbeciles out who'll start the whole 'Pau is shit what does he even offer defensively!'.

Mings and Lindy strikes me as a good partnership.  The right blend of muscle and culture.

One of them is banned - fortunately for us all.

He clearly still has it to be an excellent defender at the top level.  I thought he was very good, and showed very little rust given how long it's been since he started a game.

A great option to have, and our current embarrassment of riches at centre-half stands in stark contrast to our midfield woes.

And the same in reverse.
