Who would be captain, I wonder if Martinez leaves, and McGinn and Mings aren't playing full games? Is anyone a guaranteed starter these days? Tielemans, maybe?

Thats a good shout, him or Kamara I guess, but Tielemans would be the obvious choice.
Or Torres just to wind Tim up.

Not sure you've been paying attention but McGinn is starting to play less , often taken off on 60 odd minutes etc or on the bench .
I think this summer there will be some changes On a few levels

There will be some changes, none as dumb as your suggestion mind. You’d hope.

but his inclusion appeared to be an error. Villa lacked leadership and Torres’ botched clearance led to Eberechi Eze’s opener.

we were at Wembley , saw the line up, no Mings no Rashford , it seemed to suck the life out of the Villa support before KO .

Emery should've picked Mings and Onana at Wembley. They didn't play a single minute! Terrible decision.

Good news. I reckon we sometimes play better with Mings in the team. Are there any stats that back that up?

Ha, I dig it!

In the last game Konsa took the armband.

That article sums up the debate well but the most telling bit is hidden towards the bottom, Mings and Konsa work as a pair whereas we've never had a proper partner for Torres.

I do wonder if we might be looking to flip our lop-sided system to having a more attacking right back and letting Torres play on the left and tuck in. Garcia works really well in that role and it means you could fit players like Rashford, Asensio and Rogers inas the 3 behind a striker without having to push 1 of them onto the right wing where they're less effective.

Where does that leave Maatsen?

There's a hell of a lot of accommodating to be done to get the best out of Torres. Begs the question whether the juice is worth the squeeze...Emery obviously thinks so but there was little sign of his elite distribution this season. Still the same flaws and that's with Martinez behind him and Kamara in front, one or both might be elsewhere after the summer.

Well yeah, but I don’t particularly know why Torres is a judged differently to others, i.e. for others it seems to be accepted that form ebbs and flows whereas for Torres having a patchy season means it basically means he’s a poor player. Maybe let’s see - Unai overall gets things right, and without wishing to go over old ground we finished 4th with Torres playing the vast majority of games.

It’s brilliant Ty is staying, as quite apart from playing ability he brings leadership and experience to the squad.

Chuffed Ty will hopefully be finishing his career with us, we definitely need him for certain games.

I also really rate Torres, and don’t quite get all the scapegoat stuff, Digne gives him a shit pass in the semi and granted Torres doesn’t deal with it, but the rest of the defence then allow Eze to get a shot off, but Torres is the only one getting slaughtered for it.

God knows what the reaction would be if Torres has picked the ball like Mings v Bruges.

Playing when we use different tactics, you realise that's an option, right?

Also getting the best out of your players isn't accommodating, it's managing.
