Mings distribution has been as good as Torres this season if not better. Torres is having an underwhelming season and hopefully the break will do him good and he comes back refocused and recharged .

Absolute rubbish. But then Mings has become one of your things. Like when that absolute moron Coopers Injury used to bang on about Jermaine Beckford all the time.

Mings is a better defender, miles better in the air and has more pace. There’s plenty he’s better at, without saying nonsense like this.

"I see Beckford's at it again"

What a moron that Cooper's Injury was. Wasn't he, Tim? Do you remember him?

I think teams are more aware of the threat of Pau Torres this season so he is getting less time and space

I don’t think Tim was around then, was he? Didn’t he arrive shortly afterwards? But yeah, what a moron he was.

Cooper's Injury was a bit dim, but nowhere near as big a cock socket as that fetid turd Silhil Villa.

So I’d see it slightly differently. Mings did well under the aerial bombardment towards the end. But I’d say he had pretty poor night from a distribution perspective and that was quite a key factor in them being able to launch attacks and create pressure. With Torres, I think we keep the ball better and face less of the issues we did face.

Both good players, but if we’re trying to control games - particularly against better opposition than Everton - we can’t keep gifting the ball back.

Don’t think Mings’ distribution was any worse than most of our outfield players last night - and was prob a fair bit better than those playing higher up.
Mings is more competent in his perceived weaker area than Pau and his struggles with the defensive side of things.
Yeah, I was trying to say this earlier but you did so more clearly than me.

Anyway glad we won , delighted we got a clean sheet, glad Konsa looked his old self with a stong partner at the back. Doubt we'd be saying this is Torres was in there .

Its boring. You’re banging on about Torres constantly. I love Mings for everything he’s done for us and long may it continue, but lets look at a few facts here. Torres got injured early on against Brighton, so Mings had most of that game, Leicester, West Ham and last night. Last night is the only game the defence has looked a lot tighter, against a really poor Everton side.
To give Mings his due he’s had ages out and has done brilliantly to get back, but you keep banging the same boring anti Torres drum, like a dull bloody ache.
Go back and look at Durans goal against Bayern and tell us which centre back in the whole league makes that pass between two sets of Bayern lines. This is the kind of passing Torres has been making for the whole time he’s been here.

Let me say I fucking love Tyrone Mings. Not just as a man outside of the game. But he embodies everything it is to be a Villa player. He’s not the best we’ve ever had. Probably not even in the top 10 CBs. But what he gives us 100% effort every single game.  He’s come back from a massive injury thrown into more games than I’m sure the manager wanted but is slowly giving us that assurance and dependability at the back we really needed. He’s never going to be Pau. Pau is never going to be Tyrone. They are just different and valuable in their own way. But Ty’s attitude is magnificent and he makes us better as a club.

The defence has been a massive issue though. The stats don't lie . Yet the season before Torres arrived when we had stability with Konsa / Mings in the middle we had one of the best defences in the league .

Which obviously overlooks the critical role Torres has played in elevating us to a higher level - but yes obviously he’s hopeless..

Torres has that ability and vision to play brilliant balls like a quarter back , Bayern is a good example , West Ham opening day also he plays a great ball to Maatsen for the Duran goal which was a work of art . Problem is defensively he takes away too much resilience and that is the problem .

Well said, he’s a great man. I’ve been following the Villa since 1978 and not sure I can think of 10 better actually … Evans, McGrath, for sure. Maybe Laursen and Mellberg. Southgate and Ugo on a par
