The law and punishment exists to protect against defenders stopping chances or goals illegally, none of which was at stake.

That doesn't escape the fact Ty was mad to bend over and pick it up though.

That's not true. According to IFAB rules, these are the times when a yellow card is awarded for handball offences:

- handles the ball to interfere with or stop a promising attack, except where the referee awards a penalty kick for a non-deliberate handball offence
- denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick for a non-deliberate handball offence

Thankfully, 'having a brain fart' isn't in the list of reasons to book a player.

To the extent that he thought the ball wasn’t in play, it wasn’t mad.

As someone else pointed out, he picked it up when the striker started to press him, as though to say “don’t touch, get back, we haven’t taken the kick yet”.

It was however mad that he didn’t realise it was in play.

Other clubs are laughing at us as it is extremely funny. Significantly more so if it's in another shirt, but come on.

Those few at the more hyperbolic end should rein it in a bit though, not least for your own sanity. Mings is still the best defensive guard we've got.

On a separate issue I thought Mings was harshly booked for looked to me from the replay they showed as though he got up above the attacker and won the ball.  His arms were raised but we all know you can't jump with your arms by your side.  Was it for that or did I miss something?

Seemed harsh enough. Carlos getting booked for dissent was idiotic, two centre halves booked before they even had a decent attack.
