It was a ridiculous one off.  Never seen it before and likely never will again. Just shake your head and move on.

I'm far more concerned about our mentality right now rather than whether a player will pick a ball up in the area. We had 30 mins after this and did 3 8th's of feck all in that time and looked like we hadn't played together before quite frankly.

They’ll be no contest in the idiotic moment of the season award.

The incident was similar to one in last season's Champions League when Arsenal defender Gabriel picked up a goal kick against Arsenal
Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg chose not to give a penalty on that occasion saying it was a "kid's mistake" and wouldn't have been in the spirt of the game.

Its poor but we can't complain.  If you do not want a decision to go against you dont do it.

I just get why he felt the need to pick it up. He was under zero pressure and the ball was slow moving. Just terrible from tyrone all round. Thats just killed all our CL momentum

He will always be remembered for that mistake - what was he thinking?

He was probably more interested in chewing his Hubba Bubba chewing gum, than concentrating on the game.

If you watch it back, he seems to pick up the ball when one of their players starts to run towards Emi. It was a collosall fuck up all round.

You’ve got it sid, that is obviously exactly what it was.

I honestly thought that the ref cocked up: surely it's either a handball and yellow card (so, off after a second yellow) or it's not a handball because the game had not restarted. And - yes! - clearly Mings made a mistake; I get that.

He probably felt to be fair to him sending off mings for a moment of stupidity would be harsh as the penalty was enough of a punishment. He showed some compassion so i wont criticise the ref for that.

I bet Peter Enckelman enjoyed a large brandy and cuban cigar last night.  His demons have been painted over.

I still don’t understand why he felt he needed to pick up the ball. The only time you need to do so is when taking a throw.

Yeah. You tell your young kids that when playing in the park. Even if the ball is stuck under a bench or something.

The problem is, the ref was wrong to do it against Arsenal and absolutely right to give a penalty last night.  It wasn't us wronged in this situation, it was Arsenal's opponents (Bayern?)

He could have cost us a place in the top 8 for that.  Its brainless i mean how thick can you be seriously?

He certainly isn't thick, but his ability to just switch off at any moment has never left him.  You'd be crucified I'd you did that on a Sunday morning down the park, let alone in a champions league game.

Agree with that bud.

Othwe clubs all laughing at us. He made us a laughing stock. I just dont understand on his CL debut he decides to do something so idiotic

I really do wonder about you ?

You seriously think he "decided" to do what he did.  What happened clearly was that he took his eyes of the ball and then turned to find it rolling towards him and (incorrectly of course) assumed it had been thrown back to Martinez and missed him.  Yes I am sure he will also wonder why he didn't just kick it back to his keeper - he didn't and what happened happened.  Other clubs ARE laughing at us but that's because we have scared them reaching the Champions League and exposing their weaknesses.  This allows them to point and say Villa won't do it again won't go far in the Champions League but here we are 99% certain to be still in the knock out phase and still at the upper end of the Premier League.  We all know there will be blips on the way and what we dont need then is a drama queen!
