I mean, I know a lot of people don't like Konsa at right back and I've seen the same performances they have, but I do think some have got a bit of a bee in their bonnets about it. Usually when he's not played well there neither has the midfield, and it strikes me as a bit of a coincidence that that correlation has kept so strongly. What's more likely, that Konsa ruins the midfield, or that a lack of structure left him exposed too often?

No manager's perfect, everyone's entitled to their view, etc etc. I'd just love to see Emery's hours and hours and hours of footage, data, evidence etc for justifying Konsa at right back, because by fuck I'm sure it's there.

Extra height defensively is definitely part of the reason he has picked Konsa there when Cash has been fit. Let's him put in Carlos or for a time Lenglet. Games like Luton where Konsa got bullied at CB, Carlos has his uses in games like that. We are very vulnerable at set pieces so that's certainly part of his thinking.

Emery just isn't that keen on Matty Cash either for whatever reason, it just happens sometimes with a manager, even an elite one like Emery. He sees something he doesn't like. But Konsa at RB isn't any kind of answer. Id love to know how many times this season, Konsa had to be moved out of RB. Seems to me it happened quite a bit, either he got replaced or instead moved inside and one of Carlos/Lenglet hooked. West Ham away was definitely one and we were immediately better for it.

I would say for both players their distribution is nowhere near good enough to be a top RB. Cash, shapes to play it down the line then checks back inside, rinse/repeat..Konsa doesn't even shape, he just stands on the ball and passes it back to the CB as he isn't comfortable taking the ball in that position. No wonder his passing stats are so high!

Again I'd argue the shape of the team is all wrong when Konsa plays there, other teams let him have the ball (similar to AWB at Man United) as they know he will do nothing with it. Unfortunately for Cash, for all his energy and his ability to get into good positions, he really doesn't deliver enough quality.

Is that when Konsa has played RB or is it when he's CB as well?  Only reason I ask is that a lot of his passes when he's at CB are with Martinez which may skew things a bit.

Depends what this Serbian kid is like, but we need another option at RB as Cash has struggled a bit and Konsa is better at CB.

I agree Konsa stifles our attacks down the right when he plays fullback.  He doesn't have the confidence to cross or beat a man and just recycles it.  I think it takes something from Bailey's game as defenders know Konsa isn't a threat.  When Cash overlaps, it at least gives defenders something to think about, giving Bailey that little bit more time.  The Lille home game was a stark example where it attacks constantly broke down with him.

I get the asymmetric set-up, but even so I still think your more defensive fullback should have the ability to occupy a defence when he does go forward.  For me Konsa is an excellent centre half and ok as emergency cover for a right back, but I honestly don't think he's good enough there to be considered as one of our main options for the position.

If these are your criticisms of Konsa at right back, that he doesn't best a man and cross enough, then, no, you don't get the asymmetric set up. He plays similar passes to the centre backs, which are meant to be progressive when the moment presents itself. He's really, really not meant to be playing as Cafu, and it's amazing how stubborn some are in refusing to understand this!

To say 'the shape is all wrong' and is 'like Man Utd with Wan Bissaka' is just the same thing. You refuse to understand the system. The shuffling over to make a three at the back while the left back goes forward is to help keep numbers up in midfield, as otherwise a midfield two is liable to be overwhelmed in this day and age. It's about patience in possession which is about options on the ball in midfield. And it's got us fourth.

It will be interesting to see how Unai fits Mings into the team next season, when he is fit enough to play, and who drops out of the team to give Mings a game?

I cannot see the Spanish Centre Half - sorry can't remember his name - signing for us without a guarantee of playing regularly (his salary is also going to make him one of our top earners).

Tough decisions for Unai, as we have done so well this season, but we have to make our squad far better next season, if we want to do maintain our league position and try to win a trophy.

It will be interesting to see how some of the current 1st 11 react to not playing and being on the subs bench?

I never said he's never had a bad game - just that he's not meant to play like Cafu. He's not a defensive full back in possession , his job is to literally stay back most of the time. Maybe go and watch the Man City game again pal.
