One player who I do quite like who would have been better than Dier or Macguire is Trevoh Chalobah. Quick and reads the game really well.

The one I think who is very unlucky is Tomori.  Regular in a team that won Serie A last season and are 2nd this one, and has been playing in the Champions League.

Where I think this could all come unstuck is that there is very little time before the group games begin.  It's not like normally when there are weeks of training and a few warm-up games to prepare.  This is straight in and players who are well short of game time and fitness could well be caught out.

Confirms my support of Argentina for the tournament. Probably would have had my Irish passport taken off me for cheering Gareths lads anyway, Villans-involved or not.

I can see England finishing the group with 4 points - Iran [W], USA [D] and Wales [L].

We'll be sent home early, Southgate will get his marching orders, Potter's dismal run at Chelsea will continue and he'll get potted, and then he'll be the next England manager. I'd be amazed if Gerrard got it considering the mess he made of us!

You could argue that Mings, Watkins and Dougie could all be packing their bags for Qatar if we'd not had that clown in charge for so long.  ☹️

Too fückin' right you would. Now go and play the The Wolfetones' 'Admiral William Brown' 10 times as penance.

He wasn’t great or poor either. Took one interception out of the sky brilliantly to stop one of them being clean through. Hope Carlos gets up to speed soon as we need his physicality alongside him.

He will be defended to the end of time by some, but I think his time might be coming to an end once Emery has a transfer window or two under his belt.  To be fair though, the defence looked shaky all night.

It was a bit daft changing the two centre half’s, although Konsa looked very ropey on the ball tonight. He can defend but his touch is crap.

Personally I reckon Konsa is a bigger concern than Mings.

I agree Konsa is having a struggle to play football however changes are going to be made with how Emery uses squad as a collective and rotations.

Perosnally I think Emery is great how he uses the squad and rotation of players so Mings and the rest have to get use to that too but bit much asking him to come on today.

On Mings
It was a mistake to have him involved because of the disappointment of not making the World Cup his morale would be low.

I feel he will improve again but today was difficult day for him and he then had to slot in and get up to speed.

I'd much rather we kept Konsa as I think he can really improve.  Mings as what you see is what you get and what you see is a play that makes a major error pretty much every game, 2 or 3 if he's having a bad one.  Certainly good enough as a squad player but no where near good enough if you want to be pushing top 10 and upwards. If he's making England squads then we have problems.

Tonight was a great example although I think Olsen scared the shit out of our defence almost as much as the Man Utd forwards did.

Not a single defender covered themselves in glory tonight.  They were proper ropey. Unai will sort it.

Rubbish. I've defended him to the hilt but it's all last ditch rubbish. Sliding and slipping and throwing himself at things. He's never a top half centre back. Sell in the Summer.
