Emery likes his central defenders to play put from the back.As they'll split and with Tyrone naturally let footed and an original left back I feel he'll be ok positionally and Emery will look to improve his concentration when making his passes forward. There may be the odd error or two as Villa look to use a build up play but I feel Mings will be more comfortable and ready for the new beginning under a first class coach who we must think will rate Mings.
In a 4-2-3-1 with Dedoncker and Luiz in front of him, he hasn't got to play it out very far before somebody much better on the ball gets it, and hopefully then sets us off on an attack. The problem comes when we play 4-3-3, and he has to try to pass it further to somebody like McGinn, who would then quite often give the ball straight away.

Our defence look very solid with him ie run up and tackle/ stop break aways from the opponents, aerial dominance etc. Problem is he hasnt (to a lesser degree than Cash but still) the bodily calmness and control of his body and his foot on the ball and technical ability in this to play out from the back at ease. Under pressure he will rush and hoof it (as Cash will do even more). This is way Diego Carlos where bought IMO and you could easily see he was so much better in this matters. I dont feel Mings (or Cash) will be more comfortable in this in the new beginning as this is something that not are things that you get much better on by exercise or something else IMO. Sorry.

Apparently Unai likes to put the captaincy to an anonymous player vote, which is probably the best way to do it so no one is pissed off
Would you make him Captain again? if not who? If Ash is keeping his position I would go for him in the short term.
