I think the 'England international' standard though depends on what that standard is.

Was his form last season good enough for what has traditionally been (and should be) England international standard? No, I'd absolutely agree not.

Was it good enough to be considered for selection amongst, in international terms, a very average and in a lot of cases poorly performing selection of centre backs such as Keane, Dunk, Coady, crap centre midfielder Eric Dier playing out of position, Tarkowski, Stones and Maguire? I still think it was and is.

I've left Joe Gomez out as I think he will be head and shoulders above any of those mentioned in a year or two and would be an automatic pick for me.

His reaction to his own failed header was very disappointing I have to say (3.43 in). He just gave up and left it for  others to deal with. Not only does he not make the run back to try and salvage something from his mistake but he doesn't even take a look around in order to cover other attacking players. This from someone we look to as a leader both on and off the pitch.

It would have been a helluva evening, I suspect, if Lloris had been our keeper :)

Not much point until Man City's buy back option lapses.

Maybe we could buy it out? Or in the very least, create some kind of a 'bidding war'?

There was a comment by Percy a few weeks ago that we were looking at contracts fpr Mingd, SJM and Doug. So assume those conversations are happening behind the scenes

I'm pleased with this news. Whatever people may have said about him not being at his best last season, he made a difference to our goals against column and definitely helped us stay up.

Plus he's a leader that's good to have. I expect to see even more chest-thumping from him now...

Still has it all to prove in the top division for me, starting with this evening.

Just needs to focus on doing the simple things well. Get the ball and roll it into midfield or in front of Watkins/Davis, that's it. Working on his heading technique, given his size he should be dominating at set piece time.
