I think the word "initial" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.  There is a world of difference between "out there on the grass doing some light ball work" and "training like everyone else and available for selection".

If we see him again at ANY point this season I'll be delighted, but even if he's ahead of schedule I'd be surprised to see him in competitive action before April.

The one thing I'll say in his favour, is that Ty is an incredible professional, and having gone through this before, I suspect he has done absolutely everything within his power to reduce the time to get back fit.  So if anyone was going to do it ahead of schedule, it would be him.

One website includes quotes from a US Doctor who specialises in those injuries. He reckons most athletes are playing again after 9 months but most reckon it is into the 12 months range / second season before they feel like they are fully recovered. So I think we could see him in the run in, however don't expect the same player in those matches.

I think we just want any player.  Especially at centre half.

I thought Buendia was supposed to be recuperating quicker - is he back training yet?

I was wondering this myself. (Unconfirmed) Reports were he was expected to be back for March but no news yet. Although I'm not sure how social media savvy he is compared to Tyrone.

I follow Leah Williamson on Instagram (purely for ACL recovery recearch purposes of course), she was back 'on the grass' 6 months after her injury but it took another 3 months before she appeared for the first team. So maybe we shouldn't be too optimistic for a return this season. But if there is a chance that is better than nothing.

We need to stop comparing ACL injuries in different players.  Firstly there are degrees to the ACL tear itself from grade 1-4 tear to complete rupture.   Also, some ACL injuries mean one or more of the other ligaments also get damaged at the same time, which complicates recovery even further.  Kamara walked off the field with a bit of a limp.  Mings was in agony on the floor for 15 minutes and had to be stretchered off - every injury is different.

I had a full rupture and was back playing in 4 months with no surgery.  However, I was 37 at the time and not a professional athlete.  I also had really good stability in the knee so surgery was deemed as detrimental in my case.

Isn’t the Arsenal player who did his ACL at the start of the season back in training as well now?

Great news that he's back, even if it's the first step. Hopefully we'll see him get a few minutes before the season ends & he's 100% ready for next season.

Nothing keeps a good man down. Not surprised by his recovery rate.
