Brief interview with Mings in the Grauniad;

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jun/13/tyrone-mings-england-aston-villa-euro-2024-qualifiers

On a certain idiotís drinking -

ďIíve never put myself in the position of where Iíve actually flown out with him but Iíve seen him abroad and many, many times in this country. Itís impressive Ė if thatís what youíre into.Ē

Bits in the Times interview - the comment about actually playing his own position rather than trying to do everything is v interesting

ďEven sitting there at Bournemouth thinking Iíd fallen a long way, never did I think there was no way back,Ē he said. ďI learn way more in times of uncertainty or disappointment compared to when it is going well and there isnít much to think about because things are easy.

ďThereís always a plateau in peopleís careers where things are coasting. I wasnít taking it for granted, but you just sometimes need a kick up the backside, donít you? If I look back now and think, ĎWas I really pushing myself everyday to the level where I am right now?í Honestly, probably not.Ē

Emery replacing Gerrard has been key for Villa and Mings. ďI go back to the first conversation we had and he [Emery] said every time he watched me, I ended up in centre midfield, left wing, right back or covering the other centre back, left back, and all of that can happen within 60 seconds.

ďHe wanted me to play in my position, simplify what I was doing and learn his methods. Iím expending less energy just being a left-sided centre back. He basically taught me that I know nothing about the position that I play. Heís opened my eyes

I did always wonder why "being here, being there, being every fucking where" was always so lauded in players. Seems I'm also a footballing genius then.....

He's at left-sided centre back, he's at left-sided centre back, he's at fucking left-sided centre back, Tyrone Mings, Tyrone Mings. Catchy, I'm sure you'll agree.

Harry Maguire starts as usual vs Malta. So no point getting fucked off about that as Southgate was never going to drop him. But how is the Palace CB Guehi in ahead of Mings? Mings plays on the left, has been outstanding most of the season and deserves to get back in.

It's exciting though, can Gareth's boys maintain their perfect start with a win against the mighty Malta?

Mouthgate can only possibly do this on purpose as there is no logical reason to overlook the form Mings has been in.

Total cock end. Mcguire must be actually embarrassed
