Let's learn from the recent Hause experience eh guys? Kalinic needs a full pre-season to get up to speed, let's judge then. Early signs have not been promising admittedly..

I'd rather judge him after a spell playing behind a half-decent defence. He came in at a time when our defence was as much use as a salad at a Scottish buffet, if we can keep Hause and Mings there's no reason to think he can't improve.

He also plays in front of an international defence but still looks awkward and completely out of place. I think he's managed to somehow carve a career as a goalkeeper based on his size and being the shit kid put in goal rather than actually having any natural skill as a footballer. I'll be more than happy for Kalinic to prove me wrong, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if he was shipped straight back out again in the summer.

I think Smith knows we’ve signed a dud. Wouldn’t at all be surprised to see both Kalinic and Nyland shipped out in the summer.

I wouldnt claim we've signed a dud just because he was left out of the last squad. That could have been for any number of reasons really. Let's see how things pan out for him.

I love how we write players off so quickly.

There is a long and illustrious list London Villan going in my time right back to Danny Blanchflower.  The He's Shit Get Rid roll call.

Writing him off is absolutely bonkers.

He will be a good keeper but needs more than three months to adjust for goodness sake.

I thought exactly the same about Nyland. And still do.

.

Me too. Excellent distribution, which is a big part of the game these days.

Dean Smith has some tough decisions to make, and I think he is the best man to get them right.

I agree with you re Kalinic, he needs time, but surely Hause as an example doesn't work, as he's a player who sorted himself out in the space of a couple of games (and very well, too) rather than needing a pre-season.

We obviously need to give both Kalinic and Nyland the benefit of the doubt and see how they fair with a preseason, however they are professional footballers for a reason and a ball is still a ball so we can only judge them on what we've seen so far, and what the coaches see of them in training. It's fair to say they both still have to prove themselves at this stage and they have the chance to do so.

Has there been any news on either of their injuries lately?

If Steer had the clown defending that both Nyland and Kalinic had to deal with he’d look even worse. There is a reason Jed Steer is a career back up. It’s because he’s a back up level keeper. Better than Bunn who is another example. Kalinic is an international level goalkeeper who while had some shaky moments, so not giving him an entire pass, has had a lot more to contend with in his short Villa career.

David De Gea struggled in his first six months in English football. Even with his size and ability it took him half a season to adjust.
