There's a very good chance these pricks will be nowhere near the cup final.

The problem with this was not so much Spurs playing on the Sunday, as the combination with Man U playing on the Friday. With travel time to also be allowed for, those 2 extra days prep clearly significantly favour Man U. Something we would usually rage about tbh!

If both had been on the Saturday, or even on the Sunday, then there probably wouldn’t have been enough justification to move it, but Man U getting an extra day to fit in rest, prep, & travel, whilst Spurs get a day less (than if it had been Saturday) cannot be justified and shows clear favouritism to Man U.

It would have been best solved by moving both to Saturday imo!

Being utterly selfish, as I only live a few miles from Villa Park, I much prefer a Friday night fixture to a Sunday or Saturday lunchtime game.

I actually think there's more chance of the crowd being right up for it in our last home game with a lot to play for.

Amfy is right. Man Utd came into play this time. If they hadnt been the other possible finalist, I doubt the game would have been moved.

Chelsea - Man Utd was only moved from the Sunday to the Friday three weeks ago, so that it could be shown on TV.

So maybe the actual solution here was to not do that, with the possibility of them playing Spurs in a European final a few days later?

Personally I'm not sure what the outrage is about from a sporting perspective. I don't think we're particularly disadvantaged with it being on Friday to Sunday. We'll still have an extra day's prep than them. They still won't want to risk players with the final so close. As others have mentioned, they are also clearly at a disadvantage compared to their likely opponents, also a PL team, in the final if it is on a Sunday.

Having said which, it's shit again for match going fans that this is only being decided now and I'd be fuming if it had messed my own personal plans.

Finally, it would be hilarious if they get knocked out now.

For me, it's this bit:

Clubs being able to shuffle the timings of their games around to help them out should either be a thing or not.

Nothing on the Villa or Spuds official sites.

Premier League still list it as 14.15 on the Sunday and live on Sky

PSG had a match cancelled before playing us. Did we get our fixture cancelled to have the same opportunity, NO. Would we have had help from PL if we had requested it, NO.  One rule for so called big 6, f the rest of them. Some things never change.

I suppose playing Liverpool later in the season could have been problematic later on if there had been an actual postponement or unexpected event necessitating the need for extra free midweeks. Moving the game from Sunday to Friday doesn't make any odds in that respect.

I think I've decided I want Tottenham to win the Europa League assuming no miraculous Basque or Arctic fightbacks. I want to see us definitely have a better season than Man U once in my conscious lifetime. Plus, while we have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League, I'd rather Tottenham, a team who we sometimes beat, qualify for it than a team that we never do.

So, on that basis, happy Man U aren't getting an extra two days rest. Hopefully Tottenham have the common sense to rest all their better players anyway. If not, set Matty Cash on them.

Looks like we might just get the last train back to London if we leave at half time and race to New Street. And then it looks like rail replacement buzzes will be operating. I presume the match tickets will be non refundable? even though they were booked before any time or date could be confirmed?
