Well if you can't be good, be lucky i say. Pretty piss poor performance all round apart from McGinn who looked a superb acquisition. Jedinak starting as centre half - well its not like everyone doesn't know he can't play there  apart from Nan's hair. Seriously if he's the 2nd best centre half we have, then give all the youth centre halfs free transfers because they're never gonna make it if they can't be better than that. hell as least elphick only looked a complete disaster waiting to happen last game - Jedinak was the real deal. Kodjia, well he was pish again but i do believe he will come good. Just as well because Bruce isn't gonna play anyone else

Did anyone else get stuck in mad traffic near Aston Hall yesterday.  Looked like a massive wedding was happening there and people leaving it really snagged up the roads.  I never usually come that way to the ground and missed kick off as a result.

Yeah took me nearly an hour to get from Park Circus to King Edwards. There was a wedding and a big bible/church event on Aston Park and loads of cars were trying to get out via Albert Road just as the matchday traffic hit. Mayhem

Bruce could be the one thing holding us back this season.  With a couple of loans we will have all the ingredients for a good team playing good football.  But the chef has a tendency  to mistake the sugar for the salt and an appetite for old fashioned plain food and stodgy puddings.  Hopefully the new owners will already be scouting a michelin star contender.

Based on highlights only, McGinn looks to have a wand of a left foot and great delivery into the box.  And a shot on him.  It could be another Bruce signing in the mould of a Maguire or Robertson.  Not before time, but if he lives up to the promise, credit is due.

Just word on Jedi’s poor display yesterday. He looked under cooked in his preparation. Did he have a full preseason after the World Cup? How many minutes did he have in friendlies?

Chester first scorer each way at 20/1. Nice.

Forgive my ignorance but how did you have this each way ? My missus wanted me to put a fiver on Chester anytime at 7-1 - told her I had and am now £40 out of pocket ! Don’t care as we won but wasn’t happy at 2-2

Skybet offer first scorers each way (ie first scorer plus any time scorer). I've only just noticed that today myself, so it may be new.
Thanks. Hadn’t seen that. May have to switch from Betfair for my occasional flutter.

I whooped with delight as Murphy reported our last-ditch winner, but it didn't sound like we performed anything like I was hoping for prior to ko. Replacing Mad Tom with Jedinak was never likely to instill the confidence & solidity that our defence was crying out for: and so it proved. Still, I ain't gonna sniff at our winning start to the campaign (although there are clearly a number of issues that SB needs to sort asap). I only saw the brief highlights last night, but I couldn't help but notice the telling contribution that SJM made on his debut. The quality of his dead-ball delivery was superb; and his already burgeoning partnership with Jack was a joy to behold. I won't repeat the concerns I just expressed in the Kodjia thread, but I hope to God we can bring in the kind of striker who's able to compliment the way Bruce appears to want his team to play (yeesh). A concerted push for promotion could well depend on it.

It's a shame Davis is injured, he's obviously not prolific, but his hold up play was great at times last season and he helps the midfield as they know to make runs off of him. Hope RHM gets a start on Tuesday and a first goal, maybe play Kodjia on the left.

Bruce should know that Jedi in the back 4 is a mistake waiting to happen so why do it?
We were the better team marginally. Wigan for their part were good and I think have a decent chance of the play offs on that showing.

He dosen't rate Elphick one little bit.

No idea why Axel didn't play CB though.

My Rangers friends (they’re actually sound) reckon we’ve got a steal with McGinn. Their summary was a young Scott Brown but better. The “bad news” is he’ll be at Villa for 2 years before we sell him for 20m. 😢
I can’t believe that. That you have Rangers supporting friends😂 on McGinn he could as good as Pat McMahon. Possibly the best debut since Dion Dublin.

What a debut that was! His and Carbone's are two of my absolute favourites.
Hope you enjoyed today, fella!

Sasa Curcic also had an excellent debut...

Never as good as Pat McMahon!

I was cheered up pre-match when I heard Pat Nevin say we had one of the best deals of the summer. He reckons there were two Scottish players who could walk into the premier league - McGinn and Tierney (sp?).
As o said he could be as good as Pat😊
For the first time in years I saw a midfielder pick the ball and drive forward pass and move to receive. Worth paying for.
