Pound for pound one of the best transfers in our history I reckon.  I think he's ace.

If I had to pick a player to score our winning goal in a cup final, it would be John.

Last player out of the ground in Saturday and spent a lot of time chatting to the waiting supporters.

He's a top bloke. Chatted to my lad about the fact he was wearing shorts in the freezing cold, just like him apparently. There were kids there cheering and shouting as they'd got his autograph and met him. Was lovely to see and frankly you could tell McGinn just gets it.

Beautiful.

My babby had the shirt a few seasons ago and I asked who he wanted on the back. He said ‘McGinn’. I didn’t say anything but I thought ‘he won’t be playing much’.

Ha!

All our mascots yesterday were from the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

If you're at Villa Park today or tuning into today's match against Chelsea on TV, keep your eyes peeled for nine very special people who will be making an appearance.

Thanks to @avfcofficial and @AVFCFoundation, nine of our patients will walk out onto the pitch alongside the players as mascots!

Six-year-old Max, 11-year-olds Alex, Esmay and Tayshelice and 12-year-olds Alfie, Charlie, Vinnie, Oliver and Jenson are all massive Villa fans, and that's not all they have in common. Each of them have spent long periods of their young lives in and out of our hospital and for many of them it’s become their second home.

We are so thrilled to be able to offer them this experience, fulfilling a bucket list dream for them all.

I’d like to add, from personal experience, that BCH is wonderful hospital with brilliant staff.

Just looking at a Tom Collomosse piece about yesterday's game, John got a 6/10 mark. I thought he was absolutely immense, one of the best Villa performances of the season. It's not just here that players get ridiculously inaccurate marks.

Seconded.  Naturally, it's a very challenging environment to be in, but the staff are amazing.

One of our greatest. Chelsea spent about 200m on their two last night and McGinn kicked the sh*t out of them.

He’s a brilliant captain for us, such a great lad to have.

I saw an interview the other day, he was talking about a period when his stock was so low here but Emery still believed in him. It made me think, when Gerrard was here I was convinced McGinn wasn’t good enough anymore myself. It just shows when you have a decent manager you really have to have faith in them.

I then went back through this thread and noticed he’s had a few wobbles while here, adjusting to the Premier was one, that first season we struggled and there was quite a few questions regarding him. I’m so glad he’s stayed here because there was lots of talk around 2020 for him to move one.

It’s a real testament to McGinn how even now he’s still the heartbeat to our team and when his form dips, it’s so noticeable in the way we play. What a player he’s been for us.

It's a mentality thing. Every time we make the squad better he doesn't let it get to him and instead puts in the work and brings himself up again. Even better he tries to help everyone else do the same as well.

If he has any interest at all when his career is coming to an end I'd love to see him working with our U18 and U21 squads to get them through the transition from youth football to the seniors, I think he'd be perfect for it.

Was it McGinn that caused Caicedo to get himself yellow carded where he nearly lost the plot and probably got saved from a red by his teammates?

Watching some of his performances at St Mirren and Hibs, you can already see he is top class. He doesn't get noticed for how much skill he has on the ball because he's viewed (kindly) as a jokey, very Scottish workhorse for less fashionable sides. He'd have been deified - and had a regular starting place - if he'd been in any of Ferguson's successful Man United sides. Top quality player.
