Just before he scored I was thinking how anonymous Green had been but the first was a cracking effort and the second he was in the right place. Overall I thought we were ok in possession but a bit loose defensively. Grealish was a mile better than anyone else on the pitch and the treatment he received would have resulted in about 6 yellow cards in a normal game. Terrible mistake by the keeper for their goal but other than his handling was good. We were too ponderous in the first half, Bruce clearly told them to up it in the second and we looked far more threatening.

Just back from a very enjoyable weekend in Dresden. Villa were staying in my hotel, which was a lovely surprise. There was excellent rapport between the home and away fans, which hasn't always been the case when we've played in Germany. I agree with the earlier comment that the booing of Jack was "pantomime booing", but it did worry me at the time. Hogan, Davis, Hepburn-Murphy and Kodjia were all injured, which is why first Adomah and then Green played as the central striker. It's not Green's natural position and playing him there isn't an answer to our striker problem, but he certainly took his goals very well.

Which hotel? We stayed in the Westin Bellevue Hotel and my little lad kept looking for them in case they were staying there.

The Maritim. The German Villans and I booked in there because I stay there through my work, but I didn't expect to see the Villa team there. The players and Steve B were great with photos and autographs, including signed cards for the sons of cheltenhamlion. You'd previously said that you were staying at the Westin Bellvue, which is immediately opposite the Maritim on the other side of the river. I could have contacted you via H&V to say the team were in our hotel and I apologise for not doing so

Cracking weekend in Dresden. Boiling hot weather, beautiful buildings, great pubs (and the best beer I’ve ever tasted in a football ground), lovely people and a Villa win. Perfect!

Yep, lovely stuff. German beer is immense. Far better than the piss we get over here.

Yep beer, terraces and, if you like, the option to smoke all while watching the game. There is much to like about watching footy in Germany.

To balance that out they also sold a product called ‘Beer Cola’.

Oh and the fanzone outside the ground afterwards was great. Fair play to the Dresden fans, they were very friendly and welcoming.

Did anyone see what the scuffle was about in the Villa end? Looked to be something to do with a black tshirt?

Some bloke took off his shirt then someone picked it up and threw it and he spat out his dummy. Storm in a teacup really. Blame the heat and alcohol.

Will they ever allow beer in the stands in English grounds?

Can't be a Fifa restriction as plenty were drinking it in their seats at the World cup.
