If it's any consolation, my Mrs is going to be affected by the fixtures as well.

We're going on holiday on Sunday 16th and she wanted to spend Saturday the 15th nearer our departure (Southampton)

If Blackburn away stays on the Saturday, she's going to be in for a disappointment because I'm going to that if I've got to miss the following 2 home games.

Bit harsh, Brassneck was only telling us about his holidays.   :)

They must take into consideration nearby teams not playing on the same day etc?

Every club has a pair that doesn't play at home on the same day except once a season to get round the problem that half the league are always at home when the other half are away.

It must be more complicated for us because we always seem to be at home when both Baggies and Blues are away and vice-versa.

We're only paired with Blues.

I can safely predict the blues game will be on Halloween weekend at noon.

Somebody's made a big cock up the match is in November :)

When I first started watching Villa in the 70s, both Blues and Albion (and indeed Walsall and Coventry) would always play at home when we were away.  Only Wolves would be at home when we were.   This is something that appears to have continued up until the present day.  It's worth noting that back in the 70s and further, fans would tend to float between clubs, often picking the most attractive fixture in a particular region to go to.  In those days, Villa were always the most attractive side, even when they were not doing well.  With attendance money a large part of a club's income in those days, teams would specifically ask to avoid playing at home when Villa did.  These days, it's more likely to be for operational reasons that teams don't play at home on the same day.

the fixtures look duller every season we are here

I see it differently.

I see nothing to fear in the league and a good chance to hit the ground running in August.

August? I have us undefeated until 10th November.

I didn't want to appear too cocky but I agree it's doable.

let's just see if we can actually start the season without predicting how long we'll go unbeaten. BTW Sky's super computer has us down for finishing...4th

I must admit like the rest of you I was rather feeling down when I saw the fixtures this morning so looking forward to them coming out.

I really don’t like Monday night games. It always feels like the weekend football takes place without us and the new season will feel feel like it’s starting without us.

Maybe it's a euphemism.

I've tried downloading the fixtures from the Villa app to my calendar but nothing appears in it - hopefully that is not trying to tell me something

Anyway, cba with Hull away on a Monday night... so may as well offer two references now if anyone wants them.

May as well take them now if you're offering.

I’ve managed to download it twice so you can have my spare if you want.
