Zhao beats Kyren Wilson 10-5, John Higgins 10-1 and Judd Trump 10-3 to win the title. Ominous form heading into the World Championship. Is this the year the Crucible Curse gets broken?

No first time winner has ever retained their title at the Crucible the following season.

Thanks mate.

Hardly a 'curse' though, is it? The Worlds are just very difficult to win.

I don't trust any of you to predict celebrity deaths accurately.

I'm normally on board with your jinxing business, but not this time, brother!

1981: Steve Davis wins first World Championship.

1982: loses in the first round to Tony Knowles... 10-1.

How can you possibly explain that if it isn't a curse?

Graeme Dott lost to the singer from Echo and the Bunnymen. It's obviously a curse.

Dott was shit and does not deserve to have his name in the records.

If I remember right last year the screen betw the two tables had the winners listed and they left Dott off after his arrest
