Recon is a private company and Dr Xia is a private citizen. They aren’t responsible for the actions of the Chinese government.

As I mentioned earlier, many Villa fans would gleefully bedeck the bars/streets/stadiums of other countries with the England/Union flag were we to have a game abroad. And would be mightily miffed if told it was unacceptable. I don't see how Tony's flag is any different.*

*Please don't come back with China's human rights record. The British have plenty of previous in this department.

But you make the point succinctly - Britain's human rights abuse is indeed previous whereas China's is current.
The UK is clearly a country that takes human rights seriously and cannot be compared with China. However...

One would hope that China moves on and abandons its more unsavoury practices, just as we did.

I'm not bothered about Tone flying his flag. Did Randy fly one? Those Yanks have got quite a bit to answer for too.

I find the idea of collective guilt abhorrent. It's where he's from, it doesn't mean that he's responsible for the death of twenty, thirty, forty-odd million people.

There was a stars and stripes over Villa Park in Randy's tenure. No idea if it was there all the time but I remember being more than a bit uneasy about it. That was because flags/colours bother me to a degree. I won't go into the full reasons why as they are ill-thought out, contradictory and invite some typical responses. That said, I'm not overly happy with being reminded the club is the sole preserve of one man. The flag is just a representation of that to me, but if everything is fine on and off the pitch I don't let it bother me in the slightest.

so if he were English and displayed the flag of St George above the stadium that would piss people off too? Time to start a new virtue signalling thread.

A white flag has flown over our home for too long.  The flag of our Spanish friends Athletico Bilbao would be good.

They won't be friends for long if you insist on calling them "Spanish"!

We should have the EU flag representing our membership of the European Union up there too.

Virtue signalling? Another buzz phrase that, like snowflake, is used when what you really mean is you don’t agree with someone.

So you're a mind reader as well are you? PS you're wrong, by the way, but you didn't need me to tell you that, did you?

What a bizarre response.
