Sighs

Keep on Running - The Spencer Davis Group

You can clap along, maybe even learn the words, they’re a local group.

Suggested by me on page 12 of this thread
Keep on running - Spencer Davis Group
No relevance to our club but a great song to sing to (when pissed) and a local band
Or after yesterday's result
"What becomes of the broken  hearted" Jimmy Ruffin

But not liked by ChrisW1

You cant win `em all :)
Yeah sorry.  I find it an enormously annoying song.  But hey I'm just one voice and if the crowd got behind it then it would be ok with me.

I really don't see the clamour for it to be a local band for me that isn't a big deal, although I do get people being uncomfortable with Oasis' Man City connection.
I echo your thoughts about Oasis/Man City but must admit I forgot all  about my objections when 40,000 of us sang our hearts out against Small Heath! Most clubs have an anthem which has nothing to do with their club, town or city. I wrote on here recently about a blue nose at work who tried to take the piss out of us for singing DLBIA. He reckons we have nothing original like their durge (kro) I pointed out to the fucking muppet that song is a Scottish folk song that has nothing at all to do with them or the city. I'd love someone to pick out a more neutral song for us to get behind but I think it's going to be DLBIA for the time being.
Don't get me wrong, I am pro DBLIA.  I can understand those who are uncomfortable with the City connection, but for me the pros outweigh the cons.

If we are thinking local bands then Black Sabbath should be at the head of the queue.

I think three of the four original members were born in Aston, I believe Tony Iommi was born in Handsworth. Iommi, Geezer Butler and Ozzy are Villa fans, although I don’t know where Bill Ward’s allegiances lie.

So for me it’s Paranoid, a great intro by some of our own.

Definitely think Sabbath could/should be woven in, as you suggest *the* local/villa band, seminal & massive worldwide.
Also rather safely fashion proof/trans-generational with Ozzy's TV presence over the years presumably even young whippersnappers will be aware, although maybe even that's old now..

I don't think it's going to work as post match, but have we used them to come out to before?

The lyrics of Paranoid are rather related to the recent woe of being a Villa, but it's not like Iron Man works much better. Definitely into the idea of connecting to our Aston heritage.
Might sound far fetched, but could always make use of it as promoting mental health awareness tie in... would happily advise on that.
An intimidating coming out onto the pitch sound?

(The club are never going to get this right for a majority are they!)

Can't really see the 20-somethings getting behind Sabbath, Judas Priest or any other Dad Rock, even if it did originate from the Midlands.

And the old boys rarely sing in any circumstances (at VP anyway) so what would be the point.

If we're looking at wishlists after taking a stroll down Memory Lane I'd love to see the AV floodlights and the actual Trinity back.  Aint gonna happen though.

Yes.  And of course I think we irrefutably established a couple of pages back that heavy metal is shite.

People that think heavy metal is shite are shite. Ads has lived in Mediachester too long, his taste in music has become corrupted. You've no such excuse.

I have heard Crazy Train by Ozzy played a few times recently in the build up to kick off.

I knew Geezer Buler was a big Villa fan and that Ozzy was supposed to be to a lesser extent, but I thought Tony Iommi was a nose.

I've read Iommi's autobiography and followed him and the band for some years, and never heard him mention football so presume he's just not into it. Same goes for Ozzy. Geezer however is a massive Villa fan.

Is Prince William a Villa fan? What about Cat Deeley? Where's Ryu?
