From Twitter:

"Dear Sky. For the next League Cup Draw can I suggest FOUR pots, one of which contains a Scorpion"

Which one though?

They looked like fecking idiots back then but The Scorpions are a great band. I've seen them live several times

It's pretty impressive cocking up the first and second round draws.

Is this a freebie with a season ticket these days?

I can't believe anyone would choose a trip to Italy instead of Wigan at home in the second round of the LC.

In 1968 I refused to go on holiday with my parents to Spain as it clashed with Crystal Palace at home. An Aunt came and looked after us for the week, a Willie Anderson penalty got us a 1-1 draw in front of just over 15k.

Going to Spain in 1968?  Was your Dad Marco Polo?

How can Newport be in the North?

In all seriousness, Wigan at home isn't a bad draw at all. It would be nice to have a bit of a cup run, AND be in the promotion mix.

Whoa back up. I seem to have missed something here.
Villa & Ollbeyun in the North section and Small Heath & Wolves in the south? Wtf. And why are some prem teams not involved? Sorry if I'm being a bit blonde but I was out the country for a while!
#err don't matter I've just read back the previous posts!
Well if you back up a page or two north south is all explained. All PL teams involved in Europe join in the third round.

Another nice draw.  Always up for a bit of a Cup run even if the league should be our main focus.  Picking up early wins in any competition is no bad thing, though of course it'll probably be a very different line up from the league ;)

Good draw, looking forward to seeing how some of the youngsters perform again.

What the hell is this draw?! The League Cup is so tinpot (unless we win it).

They are certainly doing their best to make it that way.  The stupid name and the north / south nonsense makes it all seem a bit Leyland Daf / Johnstone Paint (another competition that has been unnecessarily messed with) level.

The one thing the league cup has over the other domestic trophies is that the trophy itself is the original.  At least I think it is.

Googled it for you...

"The winners receive the EFL Cup, of which there have been three designs – the current one also being the original, a three-handled Georgian-style urn with a separate plinth (added later). Designed and manufactured by Mappin & Webb, it weighs 2.976 kg and measures 27 cm by 20.5 cm. It is worth around £20,000. It was used until the 1980-81 competition, before coming back into use ever since the 1990-91 competition. The reason for the break in usage was the introduction for the first time of a competition sponsor – the Milk Marketing Board, who chose to award their own trophy from 1981–82 to 1985–86.The next sponsor, Littlewoods, also chose to award their own trophy, from 1986–87 until 1989–90. Later sponsors have used the original."

I was thinking right then.

it's the only domestic Trophy I've had my hands on which must give it that bit more reverence.

I have fond memories of Wigan in the League Cup, after going to the home and away games in 95, and watching the new Pele smash them to bits.

'94? Think poor Nii was gone by the time Brian got the job late that year.

It was technically 1994, but did come under the 1994-1995 season, 8-0 on aggregate I believe?
