I think if the winter break comes in the  fa cup could be reschedule to a midweek. I think midweek and perhaps no replays but instead non league and league 2 play premier league league 1 play championship. Form 3rd and 4th rounds before a regular draw.
Or a draw which is scheduled all the way to the cup final like they do in world cup.
League 2 and non league get a chance v the Prem teams then

Other than winning a competition, for me, nothing came near in terms of excitement in football as the opening day of the season (when everyone kicked off at three-o-clock), and the third round of the FA Cup.  Oh the anticipation and expectancy, a time when any club could win any competition.

Sighs wistfully.

We do care about it. With the exception of changing goalkeepers, we tend to play near enough a full-strength team apart from the one game when Houllier had us enter the pitch waving a white flag.

We just don't win the cup because we aren't very good at football.

Have you forgotten this year's disaster at home to Peterborough.  Loads of changes, shit performance.

Okay then, we always treated it seriously when we were in the Premier League and had a, theoretical, chance of winning it.

Anyway, we didn't exactly play a youth side. The only one who doesn't play regularly was O'Hare, and that was because Hogan and Kodjia were injured and Grabban hadn't signed yet.

I think he made 10 changes from the previous league game, and brought in players like Steer, De Laet, Bree and O'Hare.  There's no way that was taking the competition seriously.

Westwood is playing for Burnley today - they’ve equalised, and will probably now win. Lambert in!

He's been starting quite a bit in recent weeks. Thought this thread on Up The Clarets might induce some bile/humour/incredulity...

Just seen footage of the moment Iniesta was substituted on Saturday and the entire stadium applauded him off, what a fantastic footballer he is.

I remember the days when we would all gather round to watch the Cup Final.  The special editions of Question of Sport, the fun and frolics with possibly Morecambe and Wise.  The celebrity game featuring amongst others, Robin Asquith.  Then at Half Time me and my mate would go out onto the grass close to the dangerously busy road by my mum and dads and replay the first half.

That rings a bell. The road to Wembley, interviews on the coach.......jumpers for goalposts etc..
And a three o'clock kick off.

Hadn't it used to be 3.30?

Having searched around, it appears that the kick off was 3.00 up until 2012 when it was 5.15 and varying times after 5.00 since.

Might as well call it a day, then. What'd be the point? To go from a Cup competition drawn out of a hat, all ties decided by playing football, through towns big and small, knockout all the way to Wembley, to this?

Just take it out to the woods, and put it out of its misery.

Keep it as it is but each round is played in a different country and isn't televised.

Or reported on, apart from the results.

And they could get chimps to draw the ties.

you can make all the changes you want but if the managers don’t take it seriously nor will the players and the fans then lose interest

over a period of time the drip drip effect of something else is always more important and you get to where we are today

I don't care what the format is, I just want us to win the sodding thing once, just once, before I pop my clogs.

Caught up with that footage too. Was class act as was the acknowledgement.

His inevitable England call-up is going to cause some head explosions on here.

With some of the eejits they have had taking part in the draw in recent times letting chimps have a go might not be a bad idea.

Everton 1 Newcastle 0. I had a few quid on 1-1 at 11/2.
