It would be great if it is actually claret and blue not the nasty purpley colour we so often end up with.

Yep. Last season my wife's friend and her American boyfriend visited us during a televised Villa away game. The American fella knew nothing about our football and hadn't seen a Villa kit before in his life. He said to me; " So you're supporting the team in the purple, right?"

In fairness, even wearing the proper shade of claret, what non-football fan would use that word to describe our colours?

When I was a kid and much to my exasperation my Gran (from Dundee) always called it mauve.

I do wonder who's decision it is or was to change or approve what is clearly a much different shade of claret and blue, and for what reason.

I emailed the club about the shirt colour being wrong a while ago when I was looking for a shirt for my son.  Their response was that they provided the appropriate colour template to the manufacturers.   I replied that the template was clearly wrong as supplied to both Macron and UA, and pointed out the massive difference to the colours of the various retro shirts in their own shop.  They didn't respond further.

As ever, it's not difficult. Straight from the brand guidelines.
Any creative studio worth its salt would get a proof or sample back for approval.

Hmmm,

Or follow this link to see how many alternatives come up when you type in Claret...

Or this one to see what happens if you use their colour selector thingy..

It'll probably be nothing like this but this is along the lines of what I'd like to see.

Excuse the standard I'm not artist in anyway and that's the best I could do hahaha

Quite a variation, but I don't see any shade on either link that resemble the purply shade that Macron and UA appear to have been instructed to use.   Conversely there are quite a few that resemble many of the  retro shirts.

It would be an interesting exercise if we could set up a vote system to ascertain what we believe is the true Villa claret and blue using the pantone colour samples. I suspect that we may get a variance of answers as we have all been influenced by certain factors. With myself my 'personal' claret and blue would be remembered from my first Villa team of 1967/68 season. However some other might be influence by Hummel kits or the 'Rover' logo shirt ( still one of my favourites).

A lasting memory for me of the late seventies shirts, was how dark they turned when wet. Awesome.

I was in the shop about 2 months ago asking for a product they didn't have any stock of and was told they were clearing the decks for a complete relaunch with entire new range in June-time....

Comes with its own parachute?  Nice.

Not sure the uber fitted route is the way we should go with some of the porkers we have on the books.

You're missing the point. There's an exact Pantone colour 229; it will have versions that are colour-matched to different types of stock, coated paper, uncoated paper etc to give a consistent best match. I'm a creative director, I know how this stuff works. And believe me, it's really not difficult – and if there's any doubt for when a job goes to the printers, factories or wherever, you simply ask for a proof to be signed off.

b b b but Villa claret isn't the same as pantone claret. Villa claret is in the eye of the beholder (provided the beholder is a Villa fan). If Tony Pantone is a Villa fan then I might listen to him. We do need clarety clarity.
