There is no question that when we came down our club was rotten from the top to the players. RDM may have been used to better quality of players but was not able to change that awful mentality that was still prevalent in our first season.
In fairness Bruce has stopped the rotten nature and attitude of the club as a whole (although I think Senior pro's such as Terry / Snodgrass etc helped also) by instilling a team ethic and a togetherness and we should thank him for that. Unfortunately now that has been addressed he just does not have the footballing ability to blend the players collected into a workable, winning team.

Thanks for the ground work Steve but now politely piss off before we all really start to dislike you
Completely agree.  Not many on here will give him credit for turning us round but I do think he came into a very difficult situation and did well to steady the ship.  But he failed to take the next step, albeit with some misfortune on the way, but the play off surrender itself should have been sufficient for him to get his cards.

if Tony had a pot to piss in last May he might have done - although the Revenue and other creditors would always have taken precedence over Bruce and his compo. i understand why the new owners gave him the benefit of the doubt on the basis that it was what he could do for them rather than the previous owner that counted. I think it must be blindingly obvious now that they have the answer to their question and Bruce's time to us at least, should be up. However, being almost unimaginably rich, they might have decided all along that this season was about measured change and that Bruce has enough to keep us safely mid-table whilst proper structures are put in place. The managerial gene pool is always more fecund in the summer and there is a strong possibility they will wait until then.

I'm suspecting this too and I can see why. But things are getting poisonous now because of the sentiments of people like me.  I'm not sure we can cope waiting.

I'm with you all the way but I have a sneaking suspicion that they might be playing the long game. It will be an interesting atmosphere tomorrow asPreston aren't as bad as their league position suggests in my opinion - after all they only just missed out on the play offs.

I still don't think he did a very good job in his first season with us and he spent quite a bit of money in the January of that season as well.  The fact that he spent that money poorly (on top of RDM spending more money equally poorly if not worse) is still causing us problems now.

Oh yeah i must've forgotten. When Bruce took over we were second from bottom and his heroic efforts saved us from relegation to League One. All this on a shoestring and a collection of waifs and strays. All hail the "Bruce Almighty" .....sorry if that comes across as a tad sarcastic 😀

It does.  Not many people are lauding Bruce's overall achievements for us but the reality is he did join us after 5 years of downward spiral, with us having finished the season before with the worst ever PL points total and with us not having won away for over a season (ish?) <can't be bothered to look this up but it was a fucking long time> and a dressing room variously described on here as poisonous, a cancer etc etc.  He also helped repair the relationship between fans and players which was no small thing.

He may ultimately have spent a lot of money and not achieved what he should have, but that doesn't change the fact that in those first few months, before he spent a penny, he arrested the slide that non of the previous 5 managers had been able to.  This debate has been had before and I understand some won't be able to see past their dislike of Bruce or his ultimate failure to get us promoted.  But I'm still prepared to give credit where it's due, even though I have vehemently wanted him out since the play off final.

He's the 20th longest serving manager out of the 72 in the EFL. Nuts.

Ok I can grudgingly (through gritted teeth) concede that he stopped the slide BUT with the resources at his disposal that has to be the barest of minimums that we could expect. Bruce out.

Unless of course we may be hit by a FFP points penalty and they would then be playing a very long game.

well one of my points was that by keeping him on they will obviate worsening our FFP obligation ahead of our financial year end, by not paying compensation to him,  his team and to an incoming manager currently in work. It's certainly not impossible to think that if results get to the stage where relegation is a possibility, they will have to ditch him and pay up within this financial year which to me, would then increase the likelihood of appointing an out of work and compo free managerial replacement.

We have seen the Dogheads leave us miles behind.
The tesco’s Are now flying high and building that confidence and momentum that carries you along.
Even the rags are right on our tails.

The powers that be cannot let us continue to fade.......can they?

I get that but I don’t want to be ‘permanently’ in this fucking division.

Yeah, but 8 years of shoddy form is starting to feel pretty permanent. Bruce has to go, and they need to make bloody sure they make the right appointment.
