VILLA. Bruce may get next two games before decision made at break. Dean Smith name being mentioned and checked.

And you don't get much more unequivocal than that. Bravo, Mr Nixon, brafuckingvo. Way to earn them wages.
Nixon is a genius.🙄
Wasn’t he just regurgitating something that was in the Sunday sun or another rag?

He did get notice Gary Monk was going to be SHA's next manager before they even sacked Cotterill.

When Bruce was appointed Zenga was still manager of Wolves, they had Lambert next. Imagine where Wolves would be if they'd given the time to either of those 2 that Bruce whines he needs.

Really good point

I just don’t see how someone who has done reasonably well at Brentford is the man to takeover and succeed at Villa. The set up and expectation at Brentford is completely different.

Is it that much difference to Brian Little getting a shot? IIRC he was only a premier league manager for six months when we poached him from Leicester. We also signed a manager who was in the bottom half of the 2nd divison with Wycombe and that worked out o.k for a few years.

Mind you, they both came in not under much pressure (from memory). Smith will have to get us up. He'll get backing but but there is a bit of a difference.

Genuine question. If Bruce and co get the boot and a big pay off will that count against us in terms of ffp?

If he comes next month he'll get the same 18 month period I gave SB, this year to get things sorted off the pitch and next season we need to go up.

Guess the problem with next manager is we will have probable issues with FFP given all the wild overspending under this manager.

There was plenty of pressure, Sir Brian came in and we were just outside the drop zone in a season where 4 went down. We weren't much better off when Gregory came in, having won 5 league games in 5 months and joining the relegation battle.

I’m not convinced Smith is a good idea, and the fact he’s a Villa fan is pretty irrelevant for me.
Agreed.

Rodgers is just so uninspiring.
Why did Liverpool sack him ?
I would like to see him here and when we are where Liverpool were when they sacked him we could do the same😊

Yep.  on paper he looks okay, Better style of football, not one of the usual suspects etc.. I just think he won't get the time for a start or be as media savvy as Nan's hair is.  If  everyone said he's got 3 seasons to  build a team to get us up and that can stay up, then that would be one thing, but expectation is this side should be up the top whoever is managing it. I think he'd look at a lot of our side and either not fancy them for his style or just think they're.......shit.

A new manager wouldn't want to work with Grealish, McGinn, Kodjia, Adomah, Bolaise, Abraham?! Let's remember he got good form out of Hogan and he's a bench striker for us when fit.

I know the rest of our team is mediocre but we need to get on the front foot and win some games 3-2 up to January like WBA are doing to hide those defensive shortcomings.

You don't know though.. Looking at how we play, and how Smith plays, do you think those players can adapt? He just may not fancy them. He may not want those loan players. He may think a decent centre half on loan is more important. Can we send them back if they're not injured? Loads of questions really but i wouldn't say Aston Villa 2018 screams of a side made for Brentford's style of play so would people give him 12 months plus to get rid of those he doesn't want or is it promotion or bust again?

Yes, I think the players can adapt.  Most of them anyway.  Grealish, Hourihane and McGinn are definitely capable of playing a more modern passing, possession based game, and I think Bolasie, El Ghazi and Abraham would be fine too. Chester is good enough to start things from the back, although he clearly needs a decent, reliable regular partner.  I feel sorry for any manager having to take on the absolute circus of a defence Potato Features has saddled us with.

Well there you go.  It's gonna take till next summer earliest for any manager to sort out the defence long term. I'm trying to not be too harsh on those who can do a job there, but really only chester  and possibly elmo is good enough, so there's 4 players he'd need to get in.  Plus the midfield squad is horribly unbalanced. And look at Hogan, there's a player who couldn't adapt from Brentford's play to ours so are the likes of Kodjia gonna adapt to Smith's style?
