Personally, I think it could go badly wrong with Bruce in charge as well.  If the football is an improvement, then I'm happy to take my chances.

This is Aston Villa.
What could possibly go wrong?

There are no guarantees in hiring a manager. While I wasn’t thrilled at hiring Bruce I genuinely believed it was being made with the sole intention of getting someone in with loads of experience and a proven record of achieving promotion. He has failed massively in that one goal and spent a load of money in the process. I have therefore no idea if the very opposite will work or not. Everyone needs a start in the game. This isn’t the PL and if our expectations are a little lower this year because of FFP then maybe this will give someone like Henry a chance to prove himself over the course of the season. I’m not totally sold on this, but I’m certainly not sold on Bruce getting a third chance.

It's on....

That's a pretty big shift from your "Bruce is going nowhere", "we can't afford £7 million to sack him" and "no intent to sack Bruce" claimsAre our owners completely indecisivenfo? Or maybe they found £7 million down the back of the sofa? Or perhaps some ITKs aren't actually ITK at all.

Or maybe his ITK is just that, and someone has informed him of a change of thinking by the new owners after being informed just how poor Steve Bruce has performed given the remit he had and failed to bring it to fruition with the best squad in Championship history.  Don't shoot the messenger.

Oh please.

You aren't seriously suggesting that these meek, timid naive billionaires have had a change of heart having slept on it over the weekend?  They know exactly what they are doing and what they want.  If Bruce was staying or if he was going, it would have been decided way before any of us had heard about the 2 new guys coming on board.
Me and Cheltenham don't particularly get on, but you are being hugely unfair here.  Nobody with an inside track can be 100% right and things are obviously moving fast at the club right now.  I've found his insights are usually pretty accurate and it would be a shame if he was reluctant to share them because of comments like yours.

It would take a very poor manager indeed to come up with a worse first 45 minutes than that served up by Fistface at Wembley.

Or to finish fourth with our amazing squad.

My guess is Xia wants Bruce out. He was a Wyness hire and is in large part responsible for our failures and financial problems by not succeeding in his task. So this might have been happening along. I imagine they still spoke about it again as a group and decided to act today. The new owners have no loyalty to Bruce, so this isn’t shocking .

There are plenty of reason why things may change - including what SB will have said to the owners etc - Also, they may have found a model to bypass some of the hindrance of FFP - e.g. have other companies own contracts or what ever.

I have to admit that my productivity levels have reduced this summer.
My lunch breaks seem to be starting earlier and finishing later so I can catch up on this rollercoaster ride!

I'm sure that Chelts is a big boy and will not allow my comments to influence his future posts.

I don't believe that I am being unfair.  Chelts posted nothing of substance EXCEPT that Bruce would be categorically staying.  He bizarrely told us that Grealish would be leaving and that Spurs would be paying our asking price - How could he possibly have known what Spurs would be prepared to pay?

The trouble with many ITKs is that they hear a little snippet (that more often than not is incorrect anyway) and then add cherries on top to appear more convincing.  If they are happy to do this on open forums then surely you accept that they are leaving themselves open to criticism if the information they post turns out to be inaccurate?

Personally, I appreciate all bits of gossip about Villa, regardless of the source  but I'd convinced myself pretty early on that Chelts didn't have any info in this particular instance.

I'd prefer we held off for a little while and got stuff in the background sorted but if they're getting decent advice from someone who comes on board as well then it might be ok. The real problem with someone like Henry is that it's hard to know how much of is based on his coaching ability and how much is based on his name.

If this does happen I suspect what will have happened is that someone has told the new owners that Henry is interested and has the potential to be very good and because they weren't convinced about keeping Bruce they decided to take the risk. I think Edens did something similar with his first appointment at the bucks as well, getting in a young coach with only a little experienced who had been a big name player (I might be wrong, I know feck all about Basketball).
