It is depressing, but I just don't know who people think we'd get in his place with the club being in such a mess.  I hope it will garner a backs against the wall all for one attitude.  Cardiff had a shite team ad got promoted off a great attitude and solid defence.  We could so the same with some luck.  Bruce is good at that kind of side.

I'd imagine the majority of the teams in the Championship last season had a negative transfer trading balance. It's nothing new. What Bruce is good at I've yet to discover. I hope he doesn't go for the Cardiff approach as if it fails we'll be left with a right bunch of cloggers.

That's precisely what I'd like to see happen if it gets us promoted after having to sell most of our best players

That's nothing like the reality of the situation.  Do you honestly think that Spurs will be the only club interested in a young player with Jack's talent?  As soon as more than one club are interested, then it becomes a lot more difficult for one club to take the piss.  Every single club in the Premier League an afford him, every single one.  And once we get towards the deadline date in August, we'll start to get much closer towards his market value, whatever that clueless idiot Bruce thinks.  So if Spurs for example, think a derisory offer of £15m will get him, then another club will say, let's try and steal a march for £18m.  If you get three clubs interested in him, he'll be going for £25m minimum.  Assuming there's anybody left at the club who actually knows what they're doing of course.

What Bruce said wasn't the truth, it was the world according to Steve Bruce trying to cover his fat arse.

I can't believe you even believe any of that nonsense yourself.

edit: not worth the bother.

I haven't seen the sky interview, but I assume if he's named payers they are Jack and Chester.  If anybody seriously thought we'd keep those two while we are in this massive hole it's clear that they were deluding themselves.  It's a shit sandwich that nobody wants to eat, but it was obvious.  As for the fees we might get, they won't be top dollar, again because of the fact that clubs know our situation, probably in loads more detail than we do anyway.  So, the 'bidding war' will start low (and the end price lower than it would be if the bidding started higher).

I've always thought that the key to Warnock's most successful teams has been his ability to instill a seige mentality within a club, and everyone from board to supporter buys into it.

Bruce is doing nothing like that. I'm beginning to think he's one press conference away from "an honest bunch o' lads".

The point I think John e made above was that we do have a big squad with loads of players who would walk into other championship teams.  We won't have the mercurial Jack or the solid / premier league quality of Chester / Terry, but neither will most other teams in the league.  And, a lot of the ones I'd expect us to keep are Bruce type players.  For me that helps to point towards Bruce being the best bet while we're in this state.  Can see why others don't agree of course.

We didn't go up with the likes of Snodgrass, Grabban and Terry in the team.  We'd have a hard enough job just replacing them with youngsters now they've all gone, but on top of that we're also almost certain to lose Grealish, Chester and Kodjia.  And we're going to trust the task of rebuilding to somebody who had no interest whatsoever in developing the promising young players like RHM and O'Hare.

A negative statement from a negative manager who sends his teams out with a negative mindset.  No great surprise really.  I wonder how his negativity, not to mention his tactical ineptitude,  will affect our younger players, whom he will now be obliged to use more.   Any progress they made under the so called Villa engine house style will go straight out the window I suspect.

Blimey this is depressing stuff.

Easier to accept when you're on a ridiculous £3m a year rolling contract.  The only reason he's still here.

£1.7m. We still can't afford to sack him mind.

I saw the Sky interview last night and was incredulous. That interview cost us incoming transfer funds.

If can't believe anyone thinks that interview will lower the price of what we'll get for players. How can it?

Lets say I'm selling my car for ten grand. I put an ad in the paper and in it says "I'm flat broke and desperate for the money"  How many offers of ten grand do you think I'll get?

Why did he have to say anything about valuations.  I mean what happens if say on deadline day someone offers £5m for Jack what then?  Do we just take it or is there a limit we won’t go below?  I wasn’t convinced based on that particular interview.

But it's common knowledge that we're financially strapped for cash. Bruce saying what he did in that interview is not going to change anything. People in football talk. It won't be a secret among chairman and CEO's of clubs that we need the money.

It was the "fuck it, we will sell for anything we can lay our hands on" nature that will cost us. I am not going to offer an appropriate amount to buy your house if I know you just want shot of it before you move to Spain.

Telling the World we will sell Grealish is fine but not at any price. Perhaps throw in that we have a plan for all eventualities. That we won't be lowballed just to generate transfer funds for him to spend. That we have already knocked back a £20m bid because it isn't close to our valuation of him.

A bit of fight. A bit of positivity. But we didn't get that. We just got him naming a list of player assets he will happily do a cheap deal on.

And the really worrying thing is that the wanker is the only "football" person in the club so is being listened to with impunity.

He is getting his excuses in early in my view and it is to the detriment of the greater good of the club.

Ok, let's say for the sake of argument Bruce hadn't done that interview at all. Do you really think clubs wouldn't have tried to get Jack on the cheap? Of course they would have. They would't have come along and offered us £40m, because they don't need to. They don't even need to offer £30m but we knew that last week and the week before. We the fans and the world of football didn't just find that out last night.
