looks like Forest are going all Wolves like - record bid in for a guy from Portugal with others to follow. Apparently Karanka is looking to sign up to eight players for a promotion push. Sound familiar?

And Alan  Hutton.

As it's my opinion that calling us dire, like root canal work, waiting for root canal work or being a quadriplegic is a gross exaggeration.

Football for me is about winning.

Gross exaggeration maybe, or possibly just a reasonable grasp of rhetoric and a sense of the absurd and dark humour.  And in the case of "dire" often true.  You seem to have a tendency to take things way too literally, except when it comes to the definition of entertaining.

If SB can shoot us 80 + points and 70 + goals with likes of Green, O'Hare and Hepburn-Murphy as regular starters I'd be astounded.

so would everyone i'd assume. our remit this season wont be promotion, it'll be purely not letting the club go to the wall

as long as everyone approaches it as such knowing what a state we're in some enjoyment can be had along the way

The football this coming season will have little effect on whether or not the club goes to the wall or not. We are totally reliant on Xia bailing us out. Selling Jack and Chester will go some way to covering our costs for the season but our other income is pretty much fixed and spoken for. The only impact of football on our future would be relegation which considering even with a few players gone, shouldn't be a consideration given the squad we have.

Some decent football should help maintain the crowds and make us attractive to any potential buyer who will see we're not a complete basket case, just a club that has been financially mismanaged. Can Bruce deliver that? Based on the time he's been here, not a chance.

The thing that entertains me most is winning. There was a long drawn out debate about Allardyce and Everton last season. It will be interesting to see if firstly they are the great entertainers of the Premier League next season and secondly if they finish higher than the eighth spot they managed last season.

Yes, that situation was quite idiotic really, my bet is that they'll play slightly better football and finish 14th.

You talk as if there is some kind of mutual exclusivity between winning and playing good football.  There isn't, as Wolves and Fulham showed in our league.  On the all too rare occasions we decided to try it, it worked for us too.  Neither does graft and grind hoofball guarantee more wins, even if it did work for Cardiff.

So what you're actually saying is there's more than one way to play football, and that grind/graft is just as likely to get you up as tiki-taka.

Three teams went up last season all playing different styles of football.

Noted.

What I'm saying is that the implication that trying to play better football would result in poorer results isn't necessarily so.  Wolves and Fulham were quite similar in terms of actually trying to play some proper football as opposed to hoofball.  I see Cardiff as an anomaly who made a shit system work for them but will be found out next season, big style.

unless they buy some decent players, which means they will be looking for a different kind of manager

I'm not taking you literally, I'm saying you're exaggerating.

I see fat sam only thinks Bruce will stay if there's not much cost cutting, which is my opinion as well. Could be good news if he's still here for the start of the season, at least on the financial side, if not the bruceball side.

well my view is he won't hang around if there's a chance to tarnish "Brand Bruce", so if we agree to pay that, you can bet he's also been assured on some funds to spend.

He is on a 1 year rolling contract so he is entitled to 1 years worth of whatever he is on.

yeah, but is that worth damaging his reputation if the squad is sold under him? He can get that in November when another club panics. If we're stuck near the bottom with anyone worth something sold he may struggle to get the next well paid job . If he don't fancy his chances, he's not going to stay for that contract.

Bruce being here at the start of next season. That's about as appealing as my doctor examining my prostate with a piece of two by four.

well yeah, but it does say he thinks its worth his while, which means to me at least, he doesn't think he's on a hiding to nothing with no money or players. I mean he could easily do a MON and throw his hands up, walk out and claim constructive dismissal. He has a history of resigning from clubs that don't suit his career or he doesn't fancy which was one of reasons i argued against him before he joined us

Claiming constructive dismissal and actually getting it are two very different considerations.  MON bested Randy Lerner because Lerner offered no resistance.  Allegedly.  I think Tony Xia is a horse of a very different colour.
