Has to be Dean Smith for me

On the basis of what? I don’t get the love in for this guy. Where is his track record of achievement?

Where was Nuno Santos's or Silva's or Howe's or Jokanovic's prior to Watford? We've been down the road of track record and it's failed. Maybe it's time to pick someone who has a vision for how to do the job which fits what we need and if that means rolling the dice a little, why not?

The vision for the future direction of the club has to come from the likes of Wyness and Round and then they have to to find a manager who can deliver that vision.  For me, a more progressive approach and bringing through younger players would be two key requirements for any potential replacement.

What’s the point in having this “Villa Engine” philosophy if the manager is akin to the Fat Controller driving a knackered outdated steam train? We need a progressive modern manager that can develop and bring through the potential of our youth.

With a high possibility of a much younger squad next season, the vision needs to include more than having ten players behind the ball, with the lone striker even sitting 15 yards inside his own half.

Steve has given it his best shot under quite horrific circumstances for him personally. However, I believe for the good of the club, he should be relieved of his duties immediately. There's no point blundering into another campaign with scant attacking options and no plan B if things go wrong.

A fresh perspective and a rebuild is all the club should focus on now. IMO of course.

I don’t mean any disrespect with this, but Bruce is 57, so it’s not exactly unusual to have lost one or both parents by that age.

No it isn't, but Steve has lost both of his very close together, which must make it particularly awful to bear for the poor bloke.

it must be/have been hugely traumatic and it was to his credit that he carried on . That's entirely separate from the issue of whether or not he should continue next season. He shouldn't.

Playing devil's advocate here but isn't that what we thought we were getting with Lambert?

Youth and up and coming players = Jordan Bowery up front.

so is it The Lion's Club chairman who has resigned or Bruce? There's a bit of difference and if it's the former why is it in the Bruce Out thread?
