I always wonder why teams do not keep at least one up front at an opposition teams corner, if only for the fact there is one less player who can score for the other team. I like the thought of two staying up top, mobile players, so we are probably in trouble there lol

The 5-0 result was a complete anomaly - didn't we score with every shot on target? A 5-0 game you would expect 20+ shots on target. A freak result.

Hopefully Stoke come in for him.

To be fair, if the fat ****** has to own 1-3 against Peterborough then he gets to own 5-0 against Bristol City.

Give him until the end of the season. Firstly because our league position means he deserves that long and secondly because it is better to appoint a new manager at the end of a season rather than halfway through one.

The trouble is, if we give him til the end of the season and he fucks it up we're financially screwed. It really does feel like shit or bust this year or we could be doing a Forest/Leeds/Sheff Weds and spending a decade or more down here.

Olaftab, don't you blame the players as well today?

Plenty of sides do it without that quality of players. We did it with Weimann and Luna.

Indeed, but if you don't have quality then pace (either in the players or in the way you move the ball) is a good substitute and we don't really use that either.

One team today when defending corners had 2 left up top, one team took the cowards approach of dragging back all 11...absolutely no plan to counter.

I'm not in any way comparing Bruce to Guardiola but next time Man City are defending a corner have a look and see how many they have in and around their box.

Imagine that as a comparison :-)

The big difference I guess is that Man City are full of pace, runners off the ball & players with the ability to pass the ball though and around teams....none of which I’d describe as a Villa strength.

I have been one of Bruce’s biggest critics this season especially. However for me today comes down to be players. They hadn’t an opportunity to play themselves into contention for a starting birth and totally failed. A few really struggled but for Bruce to get total blame for today means you have to give him total credit for masterminding a 5-0 win v one of the best sides in our league 5 days ago.
One thing we have been good at more times than not is bouncing back. If anything, today could weirdly help not being complacent next week.

I have come to accept that Bruce won’t be here next season regardless of what league we’re in. Quite comforting in thought. I the meantime I hope to see more of New Year’s Day and less today

VFL yes but it’s the expectation that is set for them. Choosing reserve players for cup games demotivates rather than inspire players to perform. They think the manager doesn’t care about this competition and therefore we are in. They can’t be bothered.  It’s no good saying the players still should have been  good enough to beat Peterborough. The team was defeated mentally before coming out on to the pitch. Bruce to blame 100%.

Picking that team was effectively throwing the game.

Steve Bruce and David O'Leary are now neck and neck.
When he finally gets the boot, I fully expect Bruce to be miles ahead.
