Was Whelan sick yesterday or did Bruce leave him out. He played Elphick due to sickness then, so Jedinak at centre back would have been his preferred option? My God.

I don't understand how we've had such a poor December yet ended up closer to 2nd than we seemed before.

Hopefully that 2nd blip is the last. 15 wins needed for 2nd.

Depends what you think constitutes a crisis. For a team looking to get promoted, 3 points out of 15 before yesterday is pretty close

Or it depends how you look at it. December wasn't great by any means but we won 1,  lost 2 and drew the rest and we're still only 7 points off 2nd place. I'm not sure i'd label that a crisis personally.

depends really same as RDM's record when he got the push. We were further away from the top but then we'd only played 12 games

Potentially 4 of our next 5 league games are at home..all of the top 5 are still to visit  Villa Park. We are still in the hunt for automatic promotion. I don't think it's a crisis just yet.

We were in the bottom three when he got the push although I think he was got rid of too early but I still reckon there might have been more to it than just the results.

maybe there was, but in terms of results and how the team were playing there is not much difference between the two.

My issue is that he's using the first positive result to have a pop at the fans.

Is he though?

Reading between the lines of this latest and earlier comments, my feelings are that things may not be all that rosy between him and Xia/Wyness, and they are the real targets. Hes an experienced manager, knows all the tricks in the book and is certainly media savi, so in that, i dont think he gives a royal fcuk what us fans think, cos it goes with the territory.

Agnew for instance. Was he requested, or enforced? Yes he has been with Bruce for a while, but his rather sudden appointment when there is a lot of criticism surrounding Bruce's inability to get the best out of his attacking options is a point in place.

I don't know. We did only win 1 out of the first 11 which put us on the backfoot straight away. We were playing reasonably well though  which is why I think he was sacked too soon. Having said that, Preston away was horrendous.

yeah, for all the lack of points we did only lose 4 out of 12. It was all those draws that did for him

December has fecked any realistic chance of automatic promotion imo. By my reckoning only Sheff Utd of the current top 10 didn't gain points on us this month, Derby gained 10. It's left us no wiggle room and probably needing 15 wins from the last 21 games. Biggest problem is that I fully expect another poor 4+ game run under Bruce as it seems to happen to him every few months.

League table on 1 January 1975..Villa 7th and the equivalent of 7 points off automatic promotion. Nothing is ever unrealistic.

And don't think that one's not going to be copied everywhere.

Doesn't really compare because 2 points for a win makes for a very different dynamic.
