League table on 1 January 1975..Villa 7th and the equivalent of 7 points off automatic promotion. Nothing is ever unrealistic.

Doesn't really compare because 2 points for a win makes for a very different dynamic.

Not really..by the turn of the year we had lost 8 games. and still went up. Always the optimist me😉

I don't see how promotion is gone at all. 2nd place is going to change hands a lot.

We've got to make sure we put in good form ourselves as if we don't then what the others do is irrelevant. But if Derby are still in the top 4 come February I'd be surprised, while equally I'm unsure on Bristol. Are they just punching? I guess we will find out.

Copied from My Old Man Said,

Yep, exactly what I've said. He seems to like his "mass hysteria" line...
Link to Telegraph article

10:43 AM - Dec 31, 2017

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce hits out at 'pathetic' criticism of his side's start to the season
Steve Bruce has labelled the “mass hysteria” of criticism over Sunderland’s start to the season as “ridiculous” and “pathetic” as he staunchly defended his position as manager.
telegraph.co.uk

Nothing new from the potato headed twat then,as andyh said;
Bruce is the master deflector.
He is the only one using the word ‘crisis’ but by including the fans in his diatribe he is implying that the fans are calling/causing a crisis.

He needs to either show some dignity, humility and professionalism or just shut the fuck up.

Says it all about spudface, oh and what a cnut comment to make about why he played Elphick!!

It is spookily familiar to what he's said twice this season

Quote
“I find some of the mass hysteria that has engulfed us to be pathetic ,” said Bruce. “It engulfs you with two results – it’s really, really disappointing. I find some of it ridiculous.

I find it most bizarre that he doesn’t get what comes with running a bigger football team. He played at Man U most of his career where the expectations would be massive. And managed by one of the greatest and most demanding managers ever. I’m sure even at Wigan or Hull or the noses there was some level of demand for success, but he hasn’t seem to have adjusted himself to what is expected now.

I also think this is why he fails constantly in the PL because as a manager he can’t cope with it all. It’s just too big for him.

I don't understand how we've had such a poor December yet ended up closer to 2nd than we seemed before.

Hopefully that 2nd blip is the last. 15 wins needed for 2nd.

Bit weird. I don't know how you're managing to feel that we seem closer, either! Beginning of December, we were 5 points off second, and 6 clear of the teams outside the playoffs.

But we had the best Villa manager ever in charge then IMO but that was almost a lifetime ago and the football is almost unrecognisable from today.

I think there is and only has been one person calling it a crisis and thats the manager .......
The fans simply expect more from what is a decent squad the majority signed by this manager but there are few in the team
If the manager cant handle a crisis then maybe he should simply resign

So is it a crisis or isn't it?

for me it was a crisis the moment Bruce walked Through the doors
whenever he goes he will leave us in the biggest shit basket we’ve been in for the last 50 years

but I don’t suppose my view surprises you much

I'd say the "biggest shit basket" was left in May 2016 by Lerner, Fox, Black and co.

I think you are right CT.  At the end of the relegation season Lerner, Fox, Black and co left us dead in the water.  Nearly two years on we can, with the help of a mountain of money for water wings do a bit of a dog paddle.

I think Bruce has done okay and nothing more.  He has stabilised us and he is  right our expectations are sky high, but we are ASTON VILLA.  When I look  at the likes of Dean Smith or even Johnson at Brizzie City I still think we could have reached a higher rug  on the ladder.

Money helps but you still need a knack for this  game of management.  Lets  see where we are at the end of the season.  Options such as the Wally do not inspire me one iota.

I dont get angry very easily, but yeah, this still really pisses me off.
