I think the signings of first two transfer windows could at best be described as scattergun.

Third one was no better really. Signing another right back and right winger.

Bruce gets us promoted and it's all forgotten . History written by the winners etc

I don't think anyone apart from those involved will know what really went on with RM but I don't know how a manager can be expected to pick a player who doesn't turn up for training.

You see no other options between picking him in the 11 and outing him as an unprofessional waste of space?

Like I said, we don't know what went on. What we do know is he missed several training sessions. The fact that the board have allowed their £12m investment to go out on loan twice does suggest they were all in agreement.

It might suggest that, it might also suggest damage limitation or a number of other things.  I agree we don't know what happened other than what Bruce has said, that might be all of the story or it might not, but that doesn't stop Bruce's response leading to a £12m player now being worth fuck all to us. Suggesting that people are just using any excuse to have a go because of it is just you projecting that the only reason people don't agree with you on Bruce is because they have some sort of personal problem with him, which is bullshit.  You like to talk about opinions but you show absolutely no respect for anyone else's whilst demanding the right to your own and it is getting a bit old now.

You say it's bullshit but your own posts prove otherwise.

How anyone who has read this thread can suggest that it's bullshit that the Bruce haters will always find something to beat him with despite a run of wins clearly needs to read this thread again as the evidence is there for everyone to see.

It has taken a while but we are going in the right direction. Hopefully the momentum is with us. I do personally think that some fans need to man up and stop throwing their toys out of the pram every time we drop points. We are Villa, we shouldn't be in this division but we are so grow a pair and deal with it.
What does man up exactly mean? Are you saying we should just get used to being not being good enough? If so well we have had 6 years of it so I don’t want to man up in the second tier. I will throw my toys out of the pram if we again fail to beat crap like Small heath and lose at home to mediocre teams like Sheffield Wednesday.

Then you are living in cloud cuckoo land. It is totally unrealistic to expect it to be all plain sailing without the odd setback along the way.

Of course it is but I don't expect us to have more setbacks than the likes of Cardiff and Sheffield United.

There is no logical reason why either of them should be above us in the league - we've got better players, more money, better facilities, better infrastructure, etc, etc. The only explanation as far as I can see is that their managers have done a better job so far.

I would be surprised if either of these clubs will be in the playoffs at the end of the season,  This is based on of the current depth of their squads

Me too.

If they tail off and we carry on in the form of the past 10 games I'll be as happy as any Villa fan.

I think fans, for the most part, overestimate the strength of their own, familiar, team/squad and underestimate the strength of other teams they know/care little about.

We do know that three squads have outperformed ours up to this point though. So, if we really do have a 'superior' squad, you should be asking why that is.

Because better teams and squads can lose to worse ones. Every match is different and unique.

However with sensible selections then the better & deeper squad usually does better over a full season.

When those better & deeper squads underperform, the manager is questioned as Bruce rightfully was last season.

It’s a fairly pointless question at this point in the season. The only comparison to others that matters is the one shown by the league table in May and after a dodgy start we have gradually but consistently moved in the right direction.

May be Nuno is a much better Manager than Bruce however Warnock is not and at most they are on par. The chap at Sheff United appears to be a breath of fresh air and I hope he succeeds. Nuno appears to have gathered better set of players than Bruce but the other two do not have the same level of quality and depth as we do so the minim I expect is 2nd place come the end of the season. Cloud cuckoo land is good by the way😊

Assuming they get some key injuries this season (most teams do) then we will see how the dog heads get on. They can still fall away, as can we of course.

Aren't Cardiff missing Zahore and Mendez Laing atm. 2/3 of the forward line that ripped us apart second game (would be different if we played them now though).

I get the feeling people are confusing lack of squad depth for "I can only name about three Cardiff players"

Looking at their squad list on wiki they've got 19 players with good level championship experience.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardiff_City_F.C.

I do agree about Sheffield United. Momentum from last season has carried them so far this season and they have looked good in games I've seen them live like Leeds away and Sheffield derby but I'd be amazed if they're still in contention for 2nd at the end of the season.

Wouldn't want to play them in the play offs though if they slip down to 6th...

Nuno is indeed flying high at the moment, but I think we should probably wait a little longer before any proclamations of his greatness are made.  I'm not sure how much say he has in the transfers there either, as Mendes is involved there isn't he?  Whoever it is who has made the signings though seems to have brought in some quality players at this level.

Nuno's done a decent job at his previous clubs.

He got Valencia into the champions league which was a decent effort.

Him coming in was part of me thinking Wolves might actually do something this season rather than the usual mediocre appointments they make.

If they'd stuck with Lambert they'd probably be 10th at this moment.

Ten points and five wins better off than this stage last season. Same amount of games lost though, it was the draws that killed us in the early stage of last season.

Yes, and a lot of those draws were down to goals we conceded in the last few minutes of games. We're seeing games out now when we need to.

Yes although the humiliating losses stick in the memory it was all the times we coughed up 2 points that killed us.
