Not so much willful, as not standing in his way if offers come in, just the way Samatta left.

Lansbury's the only midfielder at the club who's lower down the pecking order, but unlike Lansbury I can see other clubs coming in for Conor.

As others have said, he'd improve any of the bottom six or seven teams in the division. If his contract is up in the summer, I can't see us turning down a £5m bid in January from a team desperate to stay up.

Then we would have nobody to blame but ourselves if we get an injury crisis. I would hope that having left ourselves woefully short up front last season, we wouldn't make the same mistake this year with our midfield. Obviously if we sign someone, things can change. If he was nowhere near the squad, he might be off. But he has been on the bench and will almost certainly feature in one of our next two games, postponements not withstanding. He is still an important squad member.

In any case, if I was him I'd be in no rush to leave now when I could have my pick of clubs in the summer.

It seems a shame to let his contract run out in 6 months and get nothing for him, if he were to move on. Surely a lower level PL midfielder would command a decent fee?
Perhaps a bit like Bournemouth did with Tommy Elphick, we let his contract run down so even more clubs can pick him up without paying a fee. It does him a big favour in finding a new club.

Didn't we sign Elphick for about 3m?

Depends how much FFP is continuing to restrict us. It's logical anyway to balance the books, major clubs do it selling on their squad players for inflated fees (Everton sold Iwobi and Walcott to Everton for combined 60m).

Obviously not expecting a massive fee for Conor but based on his time with us, being a regular at internationa level and he's not even 30 that's 4-5m in today's money.

We fell into the trap under Lerner of spending near to 100m each summer without really balancing things out in terms of outgoings and eventually it caught up with us a bit so we had to start selling our best player for 15-20m.

Midfield is pretty stocked tbf. Still got Barkley to come back into the mix, Ramsey coming on well and now trusted to come on at Chelsea when it's 1-1 with 15 left so he'll be getting loads of minutes in second half of the season and Nakamba came in for Doug v Burnley at DM and did fine.

Can also move Jack or Traore back to AM if needs once once Trez is fit.

McGinn and Grealish both one game away from suspension. If we didn't need Hourihane, he wouldn't be making the bench, and he wouldn't have played a few times already this season. He is and he has. We would only get pennies if we sold him, anyway. It would be a massive false economy. He is also, perhaps, one of few players we have that opposition might be at least a bit worried about coming off the bench. He does have a habit of nicking goals, at least.

Burnley signed Josh Brownhill for 9m last year. No me neither.

Also signed Westwood from us and that was about 6m IIRC.

Can see him being a target for Dyche next month as that's the type of profile he likes so think we can get more than 50p for him.

Well we're never going to get our money's worth out of Heaton so Burnley do owe us in a way.

That's an astounding price.  Did they start a bidding war between them and Everton?

Maybe already have some of his saves at the start of last season if they gained us just one point would have saved us from going down

I wouldn’t be letting him go in January.

I think we’re going to need him and I’d rather he was our squad player than Burnley’s.

Dunno, he cost us in the first home game against Bournemouth.

I wouldn’t let anyone leave as we’ve got so many games to catch up on.

Can't be out of contract if we're considering a loan move.
