9 batters is generous based on the performances of most of them.

What are the odds Smith is still batting this time tomorrow.

And what are the odds they surpass England's score in the first session tomorrow? I think they will, and probably for the loss of no further wickets.

Every Ashes morning when I wake up and check the sport I always have the faint hope that the headline will surprise me ... but invariably I read about the feeble collapse.

Desperately needed that wicket, need a couple more quick ones.

Kawaja gone after a very tight review.

Broad may just have won a reprieve with Overton going off injured. 5 wickets for 200-odd runs is unacceptable though.

Yet more dissent from Smith after that the Kawaja review. He's a total knob.

Broad is shit scared of fast bowling.  That's why he bats like he does, he's just not up for it when there's pace around.

I appreciate the lack of talent or form with the bat means you can look ungainly as a lower order player but to consistantly shit the bed like he does isn't fucking on anymore.

We basically play with 9 batters + 2 that really don't want to be out there. And the Aussies know it too.

There are worse batsmen than Broad opening the batting!

Broad needs to actually contribute.

Another drop.

I think Bairstow put Stoneman off there.

Normal service resumed and Australia's day. I really hope to be surprised, but I expect when I wake up tomorrow they'll be 300 ish having lost no wickets, or possible one.

The last 6 wickets falling for 35 has really badly knocked us back. The platform that Malan and Bairstow provided should have led to a score of 500+.

Andy Zaltzman's stat he just provided illustrates the difference.

1st innings in the 3 Tests: Smith 273 for 1. Root & Cook 90 for 6.

He might be annoying, but he's stepping up for his team when our premier players are not.

And given the Aussies a real boost at the same time.

Our last 5 wickets have gone down for an average 72 runs this series. Add that to the continual failings from Cook et al and you can see why this is going to be 5-0.

There are severe storms forecast for Sunday & Monday in Perth:

Looks like the weather may help us avoid a whitewash.
