Yep, bowling first didn't work. They've knocked it around again looking fairly untroubled.  England need to be batting now to set the foundation before the lights come on.

You fear for them in the final session already.

And it's not because they arn't trying or that we've bowled poorly because we haven't really. They've toiled away without much luck.  It's because we simply arn't good enough.

Currently Overton has bowled 30 overs in his 1st innings in his first Test but its at 130-135 kph. Woakes is just a bowling machine for these batsman while Anderson and Broad, coming straight off the Gabba, have been bowled into the ground. Moen has been ineffective as a spin option maybe due to his finger injury (but watch how Lyon will bowl).

The bowling in Australian conditions lacks variety but most importantly pace. The fielding has been ok at times to poor at times. Its obvious that we won't  retain the Ashes with this team, no chance. I just hope we don't lose 5-0 again.

I think I said a few pages back it would be 5-0, and it probably will. Fancy putting this bowling group in to bowl first, FFS.

If Stokes and Wood don't play in the series it'll be 5-0 for sure unless it pisses down somewhere.

Why put them into bat when you know you've got to bat last in a day/night test?

And especially when your bowlers are sending down help yourself stuff. This was the test we needed to win to have a chance, but will probably end up being another sound thrashing.

Australia could not have planned this better. Comming up to twilight and it looks like we may be batting soon. We will do well to get to stumps without losing a wicket.
I think Root will have to have a good think about how he called this one.

What are the odds on us being 80-5 here?

Lyon batting at no10 hits Overton for 6 - the ball was 131kph. I'll bet Stuart Broad won't get a single ball from a Aussie quick at that pace in this entire series let alone put it over the rope.

I'd settle for only being 5 down.

I'm not expecting much, but this batting innings will determine the path of the series. If we fold, then I think the wheels will be fully off and we'll be facing a 5-0.

First two balls from Starc at 90mph, or 145kph in old (new?) money.
