I'm also in the not-so-sure-about-Amavi camp. His defending is very hit and miss, and I'm not convinced about him going forward either. I wonder if his massive price tag, his Frenchness and his attractive ginger hair have anything to do with his popularity?

Or maybe it takes time for talented left backs to fully get over bad injuries?

That Luke Shaw guy at Man. United isn't pulling up any trees this season is he?

Indeed. He's been back for a few months after basically a year out and he's also a young player.

I know it probably seems a bit unfair as they worked hard but I think Bacuna playing instead of Hutton or Westwood and we would have won.

Bacuna instead of both of them and we'd win handsomely.

The same Bacuna who was widely reviled last season?
Or this season's new, improved version?

About 15 Bournemouth Lions met in a pub not more than 3 miles from the ground that ran its own shuttle bus. Easy enough, although quite a wait to get back to the pub afterwards. Didn't think much of the Amex. The whole build up to the game felt more like going to a concert than to watch football. How lucky we are to have such a wonderful stadium as Villa Park. Walking up to the game is just part of the whole match day experience. Great performance and support.
you must get pretty knackered - or pretty fit - to walk up to the game. How far is it? - must be about 280 miles.

You may be right, and I'm fully prepared to give him a chance. I just haven't seen anything much from him that suggests he's as good as some are making out. I hope he proves me wrong, just like Jedinak is proving a lot of people wrong.

Houghton clearly knew that we set up with the fullbacks playing fairly close to the centre backs in order not to leave gaps down the side . They tried to keep their wide men hugging the touchline and hit them with accurate cross field balls, I think it harsh to criticise the fullbacks in this circumstance as it is a combination of them sticking to the game plan and the accuracy of the passing.

Fully agree with this. We let their wingers have a lot of the ball, but Chester and Baker are very comfortable at dealing with crosses so I certainly think it was a tactical decision. Amavi and Hutton had to close down those players AFTER starting from quite a narrow position, so it made it look as though they were out of position but I certainly think it was by design, so I think a bit unfair to criticise both FBs after they got used to the system.

Other than that one header Murray had in second half we restricted him as an aerial threat so you can argue that it worked pretty well, too (as his goal was excellent).

Preparation, organisation, determination. It makes all the fucking difference.

In an nutshell. Even in 6 games where on occasions we have been under cosh we have remained solid enough.

In the years I have supported AVFC we have been at our best when club, players and fans believe in each other.
We the fans have stuck with the club and been, possibly, the only positive constant for 5 years. Now the club have a man in charge (Dr T)who seems to understand some of this so appointed a decent manager to fix the last piece of the puzzle, the players.

I am starting to believe...
