I've heard a rumour that we have a player medical booked for tomorrow, so potential new signing coming in.

Of course it could be complete nonsense.

The guy it's come from was spot on during the summer and also said last week that nothing would happen till the middle of this week

Moxley says we have now submitted a bid for Rhodes.

The S*n says Hourihane has set his heart on coming to Villa either now or in the summer. So he'll be off to Wednesday, then.

Never been impressed whenever I've seen Rhodes play. A very average footballer who belongs in the Championship, perfect for us then.

I suppose average is better than 'wank' in Gabbys case, but if we get the right service in, will Rhodes be more likely to score loads than McCormack? And if he continues to play with 1 central striker and 2 wide forwards I think it's barmy to buy another expensive centre forward.

If he really was our no 1 target, why on earth didn't we do it when we sold Gestede?

If Bruce doesn't address the midfield problem, bringing in another forward would be just bringing in a player for the sake of it.  Something he said we have done in the past and we wouldn't repeat going forward.

Our scouting for forwards seems to consist of looking at who has scored loads of goals in the Championship, buying them and not worrying about how to play to their strengths.

Cause they wouldn't let him go then, not until they had another striker done

That's probably right. They let David Nugent go so letting Rhodes go would have left them with Negredo and Gestede.

And Stuani, who seems to be ahead of both Rhodes and Nugent anyway.

I thought he was an attacking midfielder? Didn't realise he was a striker.

If it meant that we don't spend on the midfield in the summer and we could bring in Hourihane and Lansbury now, I'd rather do it now.  They will be settled by the summer and fully understand the expectations of the club. (It also shows how very impatient I am!) 10 points off the playoff's seems like a lot at the moment, but we shouldn't wave the white flag. Particularly as we have them all still to play.

Rhodes, is a goal hanging oaf.  His work rate is similar to that of Darren Bent.  He certainly knows where the back of the net is.  He will have to have a midfield who supports and provides.  For that reason, today, he'd be a useless purchase.  But, in two weeks, with the midfield sorted, he'd be a good purchase.  He scores goals.  We need goals.

I think I remember them playing him on his own up front earlier in the season when they were without Negredo.

But could easily be wrong on that.

We desperately need to sort out both areas though.

We need a forward who can hold the ball up and bring other players into the game, especially away from home.  And, of course, we also need central midfielders who can control the game and take the game to the opposition as well.

It's easy to see the midfield problems, but the centre forward ones seem just as much of an issue to me.
