Disclaimer: I'm not a Westwood fan. I just find this type of individual player games win/lost stats totally meaningless, unless you compare with the stats of the other players - other midfielders, at the very least.

And even then, there's too many variables. Manager getting the gameplan totally wrong, keeper/defence or referee/lino f*ckups, attackers missing a sitter, quality/recent form of the opposition in the games a player is benched / injured vs when he's starting, and so on.

Looking at those stats, you could say that Westwood was the most important player at the club in 2015/16. After all, we didn't win a single game last season without him starting...

You could look at it another way that would more directly related to him.  In the games we lost and he didn't play, if he had of played would we have had a chance of winning and in the games he played and we lost, if he hadn't of played, would we have had a better chance of winning.  In both scenarios, how much of an influence on the result was he.  That is the issue with Westwood, he doesn't influence games.  At this level with his experience he should be dominating the midfield.  To be an effective midfield player, you have to pass and move.  Westwood is too static.

I don't disagree with anything in your post. I just disagree with the idea of using stats for a single player to prove / disprove a player's overall contribution to the team. As the old saying goes: there's three kinds of lies - lies, damned lies and statistics.

I don't need statistics to tell me Westwood is absolutely shit, and won't take responsibility when called upon. Shuttle him to Wolverhampton at the speed of light, and let's try to forget he ever 'played' for Aston Villa.

Do we not have a Westwood thread?

So while we are basically being buggered about with this Lansbury deal, one Derby still think they might pull off, Sheffield Wednesday have signed Winnall for 1.5m and look close to getting Hourihane for a million? We need to pull our fingers out and get 3 or 4 outfield players because we are not going to win many games minus a Kodjia without doing so.

Nearly half the transfer window gone and we have sold a striker while we still needed him and brought in a goalkeeper on loan.  This is starting to feel horribly Groundhog.  For all our fannying about in the transfer market we seem to get twice as many Elphicks as Kodjias.

I remember someone tweeting Dr Tony at the end of the last window pointing out that January could be a problem with the African Cup of Nations coming up.

He reassured everyone not to worry as there was a plan in place for that. I cannot believe that that plan was Gabby playing as a lone striker so what's gone on?

Was it ever thus?

The players that we need, the ones that will improve us, will all be waiting to see if there is anything better on the horizon. The last few days will see all the action as they usually do.

Just me I suppose but I fear the last minute trolley dash will have us at the check out without what we were actually trying to buy.  Rather like Mario Ballotelli being sent out by his mother to buy an ironing board and coming back with a mountain bike.

We are in the middle of a perfect storm. Rudy is not the man we needed and probably deserves to be starting somewhere, so when the offer of good money came in we had to take it. RHM was on the brink of getting his chance but has royally fucked himself over. McCormack hasnt worked out, which happens sometimes, you cant win them all. Our main MF target who we probably sounded out 6weeks ago has been stumped due to bad timing of the forest takeover. If there are a couple of good loan signings we can make we may have an outside push for the playoffs but I would save our money now and give Brucey the summer to sort things out. I dont want to see us in a 12m bidding war for Jeffrey Bloody Shlupp or paying 5-6m for Lansbury when he will be free in the summer. There is no value in January anyway and we have left ourselves a massive mountain to climb with the wrong manager appointed early on.

Write this season off. Let Bruce have the rest of the season to see who he can get a song out of and start again next year

We are now paying for season after season of neglect regarding a competitive midfield plus the fact that we appointed the wrong man in June. We were never going to get automatic promotion after one win in eleven. That also meant we had a real battle to make the play off places too. As others have said, it is probably better now to look at loans and build sensibly in the summer

Get some players in. Get on a run. Get into the play-offs. Get back where we belong.
