I'd be surprised (and delighted) if we got half back on what we paid for McCormack. He's way off the pace.

It's memories like that that remind me I am not dead yet.  I shall know I am dead when I can't tell the difference between Olivia Newton-John and Theresa May in leather trousers.

Theresa May is 8 years younger than Olivia Newton John. Theoretically she should look better in them. I very much doubt she does though.

My cousin in Oz is dating her niece. Newton John's not May's obviously.

Squad conclusions for this season from today...
Keepers - sorted
Right back - can use Bacuna
Centre backs - need 1 extra cover

Midfield - this new Tshibola signing is excellent. Add Lansbury and 1 other and sell Westwood and Gardner.

Jack - impact sub. Sell McCormack.
Gabby is like playing an OAP .

Get Hogan in.

I think he probably drove to Dundee barefoot over his summer holidays and gorged on Toblerone. Fulham found out and saw the state he was in when he returned from pre-season and sold him to the first mugs they could find.
"Yeah...yeah, he's in good shape. He's just deceptively stocky."

McCormack we would be better of loaning out, hopefully for someone he gets a good number of goals and we get a decent return in the close season, if not we will lose easily 8 million on the lard arse.

worrying that in two seasons we've ripped through the thick end of £100m  gross in transfer fees and we're still not in the top six of div 2. we really need some shrewd signings this month,

I wonder if Messi has a quiet run we might be able to tempt him over to the club. He might like the project of taking a struggling side up to the top flight and single-handedly winning us the Premier League.

What? This is beginning to turn into a fantasy thread, so I'm gonna join in and set my sets a bit higher than Fabian Bang Average Delph.

Would you class McCarthy of Everton at £13 million "fantasy" as well?

The thread title suggests that fantasy is a fair topic of discussion, given that Delph has been mentioned in at least 2 newspaper articles.

I don't believe that Messi has been linked so you are just being silly and contributing nothing whatsoever to the thread.

Calm down Old Kodjia. It's only supertom's viewpoint.

It isn't a viewpoint-It is a pathetic, sarcastic dig at others who dare to discuss a "rumour" within the realms of the thread title.  It is certainly not "fantasy" to discuss a newspaper report, however unreliable that source may be.

We're all Villa fans at the end of the day and most wish to discuss Villa related topics amongst like minded people, without the distraction of them being dragged off topic by stupid, childish references to Messi etc.  There is another Villa forum where this pathetic one upmanship appears to be par for the course.  I had formed the impression that this forum was a tad more mature  and therefore free of this nonsense.

Perhaps it would make sense to start a separate thread for "fantasies" and leave this one free for the purpose that it's title suggests it was designed for?  That is of course, if it is that important to certain people.

I didn't see it as a pathetic, sarcastic dig. I've seen a lot of supertom's posts and they're far from that. I think it was more just a bit of fun. Certainly not something to get upset about.

Anyway, respect to your posts, too.

No. I think it was a typing error. Original poster meant to say we are in a mess and the auto-correct was being too clever in thinking we needed Messi.

We've shelved the bid for Messi, Steve Bruce has confirmed he's turned to Dele Alli instead.

Mr. Bruce when you said you wanted to bring in players who you thought would be an improvement on what we've already got, I thought you meant ability-wise, not players who are better at being anonymous on the pitch. Please don't even contemplate the likes of cleverly. Whoever you have in mind it would be nice as a Villa fan to think that when your team sheet is announced we have a realistic chance of 11 vs 11 rather than a 9 (ish) vs 11 scenario, that more often than not we seem to go with.

Typical Villa, it was the same when we tried to sign Juninho and ended up with Steve Stone.

I'm sure that's exactly what he meant. Let's see who he actually brings in and not who the papers lazily link us with.

I hadn't realised there was paper talk as I don't read the rags or their click baits. Just seen his name mentioned on some posts.
