I think people are writing off Gollini far too fast. He's young and in a tough league, but he has lots of qualities that mean I think he can develop into a quality keeper. I hope it's with us, but I fear he might be shipped out before he's been given enough of a chance.

Quite. How many goalies get the No.1 jersey at such a young age? Still developing, still learning and still 7/8 years away from his peak as a professional.

Also, Gollini has played nearly as many games as Johnstone has (even though he's two years younger), I'm not sure we're getting much more in the way of experience from Johnstone either.

We are on a journey, no passengers though. Bruce needs to be ruthless and play whoever he sees as the better keeper. I know nothing of Johnstone but if Bruce thinks he's better, that's good enough for me, even if we are 'preparing' United's keeper for better things.

I think SB dosen't rate Gollini with crosses. Even aside from the Leeds goal, he's flapped at a few others in games so it's certainly a weakness of his game and clearly SB wants to get in a British keeper who short term will be a bit more commanding in that department.

Whether Johnstone is that keeper I couldn't say. He did alright at PNE but looking at their forum they all thought Pickford was superior.

I saw Sam Johnstone play for Walsall a few seasons back. He was seen as a good prospect then.

He's had 6 months at PNE at this level....I think that's what SB is on about having experience of the championship as I think the error Gollini made at Leeds with the cross was when talk of him being replaced started.

I do think if he does well Man. United will let him go permanently. There was a chance when DDG was about to leave for Madrid that he might've got a chance there but LVG signed Valdes and Romero and he's not had a sniff since.
The more it's said, the more it becomes the fact.
Leeds scored at Elland Road because a cracking cross came in and Roofe made a great run, dividing the CB.
Sometimes, we have to accept that the opposition do something good rather than seeking to blame our players.

Now, as for Bunn's attempted save against Leeds at VP ...    ;)

It was a great cross, but there was a clear hesitation on the part of Gollini, and the indecision cost us.

There is a camera shot from the left facing the Holte where you see he had little chance. It really was a wonderful ball into the box, as was the whole move.

This. Some goals are perfect, as was that goal. Great cross, great movement, great header. Absolutely nothing Gollini could've done about it

It reminded me of Gabby's winner at Old Trafford many moons ago

If we're still talking about the Roofe goal i think the guy who put the cross in had far too much time to bring it down, shift itt to his right foot and get the cross in, we had Hutton and, I think, Adomah both leave him for the other to pick up from the long ball up to him.  Hutton in particular just sort of strolled to block off the option of going down the line and made his mind up for him.

Same situation as the Burton goal. Lovely execution but shit closing down by Bacuna and terrible marking by Hutton.  That said, Gollini might have been quicker off his line for the Leeds goal.

Blimey, no idea what he's done to get that 'promotion'.  With the wages gone, hopefully we can get a proper midfielder.
Personally I think one less attacker might help us this season as I think we've struggled to keep them all engaged and consequently not got the best out of any of them.
