We're never gonna amount to anything with Gardner and Westwood taking turns in the team. Midfield strengthening is a must if we've any ambition of making the play-offs. Last night was diabolical and the January window can't come quick enough. I'd take Barton over anyone in our midfield right now.

Essentially we need some tigers on the midfield.

So would I, if he's fit.

I'm surprised multiple mention of Jay Spearing's name hasn't sent Chris Jameson raging to the thread.

I tend to avoid this thread but am delighted to see he has made a reappearance. I don't need any guesses to see who brought him up other than myself.

With all due respect, what on earth are you babbling on about?

Anyone who is anyone knows that League One Gomer Pyle lookalike Jay Spearing is exactly what our midfield is crying out for.

He will make Westwood and Gardner look better, for one thing.

Spearing has performed  at highest level in champions league and Europa league as well as being in prem league. 28 now and this would be a chance for him to make the big time

VILLA SWOOP FOR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE STAR

I would imagine Tony will be giving very careful consideration about how much to spend in January. If he looks at what we have spent in the last few years and what we have got for that it will probably frighten the shit out of him....We really gave wasted millions in the last few years with transfer fees and wages...fuckin millions.

I'm sorry but Barton is not what is needed.  Xia and hopefully Bruce wouldn't entertain such a type of unprofessional character .  As its not just player ability we want to bring in. Barton can cause potential ruptions and upsetting  relations and  dressing room and training field. I get signalled out for my offerings of solid and professional midfielders yet Barton who caused issues at rangers recently is seriously being touted and not questioned by others.  I think tje poster suggesting Barton is really wanting an up and at em midfielder and Barton is a go to name for that sort of player. I wouldn't think he has much chance of coming but appreciate the  idea and agree a tiger in midfield is  needed. But for  me no go Joey.  Xia has hia criteria and it wouldn't have changed since the summer

If Doctor Xia has Hia Criteria he probably needs a spell in a sanatorium in the Swiss mountains. Steroids might be beneficial.

Seriously footy the "character" considerations are much more complex than binning somebody because he is, for want of a better phrase "a bad lot".    The snake pit that our dressing room became under Sherwood was as a result of many types of character deficiencies from Agbonlahor's laziness, to Richards' arrogance, to Lescott's stupidity, to Guzan being easily lead, to the manager's self interest.  It was a toxic brew that was only ever going one way.

I don't want Barton at the club but the baggage he carries with him is, in practical terms, no more or less damaging than a player who simply can't be arsed and we have had plenty of those.

The bigger reason to steer clear is that at the start of the season he looked out of his depth at a lower level than we're currently playing at.

Even the player with a wonderful temperament and sqeaky-clean record, if they looked rubbish in the SPL then they shouldn't really be in our midfield.
